The USSR in WW2 won due to its main enemy the Germans fighting a two front war and the AMericans and British not only distracting the Germans in the west, but also bombing the crap out of Germany, it greatly helped ease up the German pressure on the Soviets when the Luftwaffe was very much slaughtered during the American and British round the clock bombing runs over Germany , also massively helped was the aid the USA and British gave to the Soviets in terms of weapons and food. most importantly was the thousands of US made trucks which modernized Soviet logsitics which at the start of the war mainly relied on horse and cart transport. those thousands of US made trucks made possible the Soviet 1944 to 1945. offensives into Germany and Eastern Europe and later the final act vs. Japan in Manchuria.

The Russians knew about the javelins and NLAWs and the Ukrs having substantial numbers of them, that is why they had a lot of cope cages before they invaded, however, these cope cages were really ineffective. It was quite hilarious, and the Russians did not know how to counter them except by bulling in more tanks against the Ukrs. this resulted in more lost tanks not only due to ATGMs but most importantly tanks destroyed thru Ukrs massed artillery strikes at massed congested Russian tank formations. also this strained Russian logistics to the point, that Russians had fuel shortages in the battlefield, that is why you see abandoned Russian tanks aplenty hahaha. Also Russian motivation and training sucks, so when the Russian tankers experience their ass getting whacked, they panic and run away abandon their tanks

  7. after this war is over the political situation in Russia will be like the 90s on steroids the worse political situation since the 1917 revolution. noting many factors such as : 1. economic collapse, 2. Thousands of soldiers not paid going back to a economically collapsed Russia. 3. massive anger at the Russian gov. 4. Russian oligarchs forming their own PMCs(when political factions have their own private armies and the strong leader is gone, well this does not end well). 5. foreign meddling in the Russian political situation post Putin. 6. No strong leader after Putin is gone. 6. Secessionists. I dont think the Russian Fed will collapse and break up however I do think the Russian fed will lose territory to seccesionists.

Russian battlefield medical is very very poor. depending on the forces. but the vast majority of Russian forces get very poor medical, they have a bad shortage in first aid kits, Medevac is for officers. otherwise you get wounded you mend yourself or lucky you are near the Russian border you go to Russia and go to a hospital. Russians leave their dead and dont collect them, goes to show you what they think of their losses. Ukrainians, well equipped with first aid, excellent battlefield medical, near NATO standards, troops get Medevaced to NATO countries for treatment. This is very important in getting your injured back to fighting order. Ukrs are fighting for their country and motivated to go back to the battlefield after an injury, the Russians, if they are lucky enough to get evaced back to Russia, most of the time they wont go back to Ukraine. Russians fight for money and are forced to fight.

  15. well Chechnya actually defeated the Russians in the 90s in the first war but Russia did not collapse since it was much supported by the west however coup attempts abounded for the Yeltsin gov. for years after that war.

  16. well out of the 15 Soviet republics only 3 are economically and politically important, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. everyone else second raters, when deciding on how teh USSR would be disbanded only Russia UKraine and Belarus leaders were meeting at first until Kazakhstan heard about it and demanded to be in the meeting, yep the rest were not even told that the USSR was being disbanded, and when the USSR announced the break, up chaos reigned in those republics that were not informed.

  17. I dont think NATO will need to build their militaries to the levels of the cold war. Well Ukraine is really weakening the Russian military to the point that if Russia loses this war, then the Russian military threat will be removed(probably replaced by a refugee or criminal threat) and NATO would have fullfilled what it was created for. So NATO has to really support Ukraine so Russia does not win this war.

  20. well in Afghanistan a disproportionate number of Soviet fighters came from the Central Asian Caucasus and Baltic states. that brought out a lot of resentment later, leading to unrest in those areas and later break up from the Soviet union, in Chechnya many of the rebels were ex Soviet Afghan war veterans who used their experience that they learned in Afghanistan to fight the Russian army defeating them in the 1st war,

  21. Yes Ive figured this one out since the 90s. Russia may be a massive big power with thousands of tanks millions of men ready to sweep and attack Europe(or through the Fulda Gap west Germany in the cold war) but again we have always overestimated the Russians(and SOviets). Yes they may have a massive well equipped army which looks scary but in reality the Russian army has a lot of doctrinal problems, the command structure is overly centralized which results in poor flexibility of command during combat situations. the army is massively corrupt, the Russian patronage system favors who you know rather than ability so you get officers who are incompetent, discipline is poor, the Russian army is a peacock that likes to strut around likes its the best army in teh world, to hide its bad weaknesses. and it shows in Ukraine. The Russian army is good at fighting short fast wars like vs. Georgia, Syrian and Chechen insurgents(not so good with a determined able enemy like the Chechens as it took two decades and two wars to subjugate them with a population of around 10 million). Now Russia thought it could do a fast war with ukraine. Probably the most populous country that Russia has invaded post cold war. Even though the Russians have 10X the economy, 3-4 X the population, 10X the number of tanks planes, APCs vs. Ukraine and attacked with relative surprise, all these weaknesses in doctrine, leadership , command and control , training, discipline and esp. motivation and morale came to fore, that allowed Ukraineto quickly recover from the shock of invasion take back 50 percent of what it lost in 9 months and stalemate the bigger Russian army and inflict so far 300K to 400K casualties on the Russians in nearly 2 years of war. In nearly two years of war, the Russian army lost 50 percent more men than all the wars fought after WW2 combined. Heck Im not surprised by the time this war ends. it would be twice or three times that.

  22. Also the Russians never evolved from that Soviet war doctrine of complete disregard of human lives . Heck the Russian Ukraine strategy of this Ukraine war 2022 to present is pretty much similiar to the Soviet combat tactics in 1940 to 43, which means unimgainative clumsy brutal frontal assaults with complete disregard for human lives and losses. The Russian army has pretty much devolved and did not learn the lessons from its past wars.

  25. these days the Russians learned from all these by using massed expendable convict light infantry to attack using WW1 tactics , with tanks used as infantry support. along with massive air and artillery support. Using massed armor tactics seems to be suicidal for the Russians in the face of the Ukrs using lots of ATGMs. so they respond with WW1 like infantry tactics. and that is the wagner group, the regular Russian army seems to be hunkering down and fortifying their positions, the Russians have been digging trenches and fortifcations several lines of them along the front . In the meantime, the RUssians have been hitting Ukr infrastructure with missles and drones. to disrupt Ukr ability to wage war. Ukrs having been using HMARs and artillery to hit Russian logistics and doing drone and commando attacks behind Russian lines.

I was actually marching in the people power revolution of 1986 in the Philippines and the 1985 protests near the Malacanang palace in Recto mendiola and also got caught up in a massive Pro Tinnamen student protests in Hong Kong in 1989( I was out shopping in Daimaru Causeway bay and was forced to march with the protesters since all the public transpo was closed). So yep I havef also seen what a revolution looks like.

  29.  @ddoumeche  nope, Soviet generals were not the best of the lot, in fact the Soviets could not have conducted the offensives in 44 and 45 if it werent for the American British aid. oh yah Kursk 43 the German withdrew large portions of their army to deal with the Allied invasion of Italy, if the allies did not do that the Germans would have broken thru Soviet defenses.

In its current state the Russian army cant even win in Ukraine, its been pushed back by a smaller Ukrainian army, losing 50 percent of what it conquered in Ukraine and can barely take more territory. The Russians throw thousands of men and tanks at the Ukrainians and cant even make a dent on Ukrainian defenses, vs. NATO heck you can say goodbye to the Russian army. ala Saddam Iraqi army in Desert storm 1991.

Add to that Oligarchs are starting to form their own PMCs and private armies, even Gazoprom has a PMC. add to the mix, thousand of angry unpaid Russian ukraine war veterans unemployed with the PMCs being the only ones to pay them, plus rumbles of secession among the poor non Russian ethnic areas of the Russian federation.   34. even if Russian "wins" this war, when I say win, most lilely a marginal wins with Russia keeping 20 percent of Ukraine, an d most importantly survival of the Putin regime in a armstice, its military and economy wont be in any shape to threaten its neighbours. Yep , the crash of the RUssian economy will happen post war, Russia's economy post war will be dangerously in war mode with western sanctons still in place and not letting up. Western investors are not coming back to Russia, which very much interferes with Russian economic recovery. After the war Russia will be busy trying to repair its economy. and maintain its army to confront the west. and also trying to rebuild infranstructure in the devastated areas of what it controls in Ukraine.

  35. yah when USSR broke up China did not really take advantage of this for the following reasons: 1. No support from the west, and even threat of bad sanctions if China tries to reclaim historical lands from the USSR. 2. Russia the successor state to the USSR, still has a lot of nukes, and can use them on China. 3. China at this time was focused on massive economic reforms and not want to disrupt this by conquering ex Soviet lands.

Russia cannot exploit its winnings in fact, Russian economy is so damanged they wont have the funds to do it, even trying to maintain whatever army they mobilized is difficult. and very taxing on the Russian economy.

MONEY motivates the Russians mostly, Same can be said for the tens of thousands of foreign volunteers int he Russian army 2K USD per month is big money for many poor third world country and the Russians are getting thousands of African, Indian, Latino and Asian volunteers. well they dont get paid mostly, life expectancy for these suckers is one month and after they die their famlies dont even get paid. I remember watching a blog of a Chinese volunteer for the Russian armyi which he was given officer status to lead a squad of 20 nepalese. he was sent to southern Russia in late 2023, by the 2nd day, only 10 Nepalese troops were left alive and they were encircled and hiding in a house. with a Ukrainian bradley shooting outside. by day 5 they broke out, and only 5 nepalese were left alive. Its that bad. I also heard, that a number of African countries rumoed to be Cape Verde , Burkino Faso, DRC, Angola, Central African republic are sending their convicts to fight in Ukraine. . , its that crazy.

Im not surprised if you get viral and bacterial epidemics among the Russians. adding to their misery, casualties and disrupting their ability to fight. and as I said the longer Russia is in thsi war, the worse is it for them.

After Russia nationalizes foreign assets along with unrest after the war, you would be crazy to invest back into Russia. It will take Russia a long time to economically recover from this war.

  49. also Russia seems to be trying to switch its economy to a war time economy, while advantagous in the short run it will be a disaster in the long run, after the war is over and Russia has lost the war , this will contribute to Russian economic collapse esp. when no foreign investor is stupid enough to come back to a Russia in unrest and economic political chaos to help it convert back to a civilian economy, not only contribute to economic collapse but also massively hinder the economic recovery of Russia, once Russian industry is retooled to a war economy its very hard to retool it back to a civilian one, without a stable gov. and foreign investments.
