+Jan Šinkovec As if a bad samurai impression is racist ... politically OVERcorrect people are going apeshit over far too much stuff already.

+Nocturnal Toothbrush Not even Adam has "unlimited space" to store such pieces, so "giving it away" is the best solution. The joy of it is in the making.
29
This IS "geek cocaine" ... much more healthy and probably a lot cheaper too.
24
Who cares?

***** Nice try, but you take a "nice round number" for feet and then a "not so nice number" for metric.
6
ethan agnew What else do you expect from a walrus? Shakespeare? ☺

Obama spending 17 minutes sounds like a well spent bit of PROPAGANDA ... showcased by Adam "reverently simping" for a guy who abused his presidential power to kill people without any due process is really annoying to hear.

@Blue84Stang One thing I started doing for power tools is getting loads of stackeable cardboard boxes from grocery stores [select the best system and then stick with it], because they have enough space for the tool AND some of the inevitable additional bits and pieces (like sanding papers for a sander or filter bags and so on) ... which usually dont fit into the original box. You can even have themed sets of tools and then take the box to where you need the stuff. The beauty of these boxes is that they fit rather well onto a heavy duty shelf and are stackeable. The stores usually trash the boxes ... so it should cost nothing to get them.

Dear Adam, now that this is done ... GET ON THE REST OF THE BRIDGE ... followed by the (functioning) space ship ...

+Havar Eriksen There is a HUGE difference between "glueing" and "welding" ... and that becomes apparent when you try to work on THIN material ... like the body of a car. That kind of material is EASY to glue, but really really hard or even impossible to weld.
3
rlrsk8r1 "Standard"??? Only where you live ... oh and to do quarters and eights you use math ... which is FAR easier in a system based around multiples of 10.
3
Cleaning up EVERY DAY (and maybe an extra sweeping for the weekend) is a major requirement to keep up the efficiency of any shop ... especially if there are several people working in it at different projects. It is not so much a "time saver" but rather a "time waste prevention" measure.

Next challenge: make it STEERABLE!

+xm377Moyocoyatzin I'd prefer if someone would explain to todays "politically correct caste" the meaning of EXCESS. Being "politically correct" nowadays is something very excessive ... and in older times that was called "being polite" and not at all excessive. Sadly the 70s changed that and got rid of politeness and replaced it by a lot of excessive feminist demands ... which then filtered through to the rest of society.
2
"It's lightweight" ... = "Its a FAKE" ... I really wish costumes would be MORE REAL to stop "stupid and unbelievable physics" reaching the movie screens. Comic heroes are nice, but they ignore "basic real life physics" when filming the movies and that is bad.
2
+King Duck A few years after an "amazon drone" put this into your lap the masses of unemployed will storm your house to "correct some wrongs in society".
2
@carlwebster4217 That's nothing to "Götz von Berlichingen", who had a prosthetic iron hand that could "lock up" to hold a sword, which was created 500 years ago. A set of armor made in 1880 isnt that impressive in comparison.

+1 for Adam using METER instead of inches and feet! -1 for Vsauce using inches ... [Just give up stupid USA ... metric is simple and logical.]
2
Come on ... out of the 260 or so different species of sharks only about 10% are actually dangerous to humans. They arent that bad and even "the Great White" is only dangerous when he is hungry. They did a test with "the original mermaid" (Hannah Fraser) and she swam with a rather big one without a cage and without a breathing apparatus.
2
Typical "american BS" ... whining about RUNNING cost and then building the house out of wood again, which will require an air conditioning in many areas of the USA. If you actually build a brick house (which ISNT HARD) the stones of the wall insulate against heat in the summer and keep out the frost of winter.

From an "engineering standpoint" the palm trees should have the axis on the middle of the "plate", because that would - IRL - make it much easier (=quicker) to open/fold away with the center of weight above the axis. "Folding up" like this would be a huge pain due to the weight only being on one side of the axis.

+Ryan Winklevoss Not yet, because a 3D printer only does plastics and you need metal for that. Oh and there are dimensional issues too.
1
Just build it 1:1 next time ...
1
What is this fixation on CHROME finish? EVERY metal can reflect light like that, even steel. And guns arent "chromed" as a finish ... not if they want to be used and banged around. You would have to use more durable material that "stays shiney" even after you have banged the rifle on a rock (which would have nicked the chrome finish).
1
Bah ... do it 1:1 ...
1
Mythbusters + Sailor Moon? Fans can be such idiots.

- Ignorance IS bliss! That is proven by many idiots. - Art needs to be distinguished by "it has a meaning/purpose" (that the viewer can decipher without being a trained expert in art) OR "it has no purpose" (other than looking pretty/entertaining for a few seconds). The first is "high art" and doesnt contain anything that is simply interesting because of the story the artist (or the "art critics") have concocted ... so no Warhols or any other such "art". - The core problem of "sustainability" is to STOP THE WASTE of energy and materials ... which MUST result in a change of our lifestyle (especially in the USA). Sadly that is overlooked everywhere in the world. - Even atheists "believe" in something and the worst ones are the "worshippers of NEW TECHNOLOGY" which are - sadly - present a lot among the proponents of sustainability. EVERYONE "believes" in something ...
1
"Glueing metal together is welding." NOPE ... glueing is soldering. The difference is: - soldering: only the "connecting material" is liquid - welding: the metal of the connected pieces is partly liquified in addition to the connecting material
1
ian yurt During welding you MELT some part of the pieces you wish to bond. That does NOT happen while glueing ... just like it does not happen during soldering.
1
ian yurt My point is ... he is an expert and should know better, because "non experts" will be watching AND "LEARNING/COPYING" from this. Oh and your post about "glue" is totally irrelevant, because it doesnt describe the correct process.
1
Syakirin57 Try the method Siegfried employed: dig a hole outside its cave and hide inside that with a sword. When the "dragon" walks above it just stab the heart (and bathe in the blood to become invincible). Oh and make sure to mask your human smell to not get detected.
1
+Tested You need a counter for the beaver puns.
1
So ... "celebrating local manufactoring", eh? Adam must be supporting Trump then (who told the megacorporations to "get your jobs back into the country OR ELSE") ... and be opposed to the globalist Joe "let's export manufacturing to China because I am the big guy and get a lot of money for it through my son" Biden, right?
1
Bah ... stop "movie faking" the stuff ... build a real one!
1
Thumbs down for using a FRESH INDUSTRIAL ROLL ... instead of SCRAPS collected over months/years!
1
Sounds like it would take DAYS to fill out that inventory correctly ... and if anything gets moved you need to change it again. Spreadsheets have their purposes but "actually knowing where which stuff is because you work with it all the time" is better.
1
Dear Adam Savage, COMFORT ADVICE: have you ever gone on a hiking tour with one of the larger backpacks? Their "comfort" comes from the fact that the weight is NOT "hanging on the SHOULDERS" but rather is put on the hips by way of the wide belt. Far too many people do not understand this and have their belt open (smaller every day backpacks have such belts too) ... and it looks STUPID (but they think its cool they dont use the belt).
1
USA = backwater country ... if you "at best" have dual-chargers. The standard over here in Germany is 4, which is "a usual pack size for certain tools" (like the digital camera I have).
1
So basically ... Adam Savage would not survive in a Steampunk society!
1
That ISNT "a lot of LEGO" ... that is just two bins of lots of DIFFERENT pieces, hardly enough to actually build something. Here is a SERIOUS amount of LEGO: https://youtu.be/qzYWaQjBUB4
1
False advertisement ... a) this isnt a ONE-DAY build but rather a "MEGAPROJECT" and b) it is FAKE ... due to being non-metal. DO IT FOR REAL!
1
DON'T USE PLASTICS! Easy ...
1
Hmmmm ... concrete airplane?
1
OF COURSE THE PEOPLE ARE DUMB! Here is why: take a conveyor belt which isnt running, put a ball on it ... turn it on. The ball will START TO "ROLL" in the other direction ... because of INERTIA! The plane is just a "slightly larger [and less efficient] ball with more friction" and the wheels would start turning ... unless you very slowly start up the conveyor belt, which would make the friction effect bigger than the inertia.
1
BB8 looks stupid and is an obvious clone of R2-D2 ... and it is a silly movement concept. SIMPLER IS BETTER ...
1
More people = more people to get hurt OR introduce random faults
1
A big mistake is to "do this in one go" ... because when you have the "big ball" you only/MOSTLY compact the outer shell ... but cant really influence the core anymore. Thus MAKING A SMALL BALL "PERFECT" FIRST is far better, although you should leave the surface rough so any new layer can "cling" to it.
1
@everydayman2 Encouragement is not as important as self-discipline ... because "great art is 99% transpiration and 1% inspiration". You NEVER see the "frustrating and boring HOURS" where you try and fail, but those make up most of the time. There was an episode where Adam and Jamie were building a "christmas Rube-Goldberg machine" with Coke & Mentos ... and they kept a few failures in, but in a rather shortened version. Going through all of them as they were failing in sequence so it would do one full run was probably rather annoying and tedious and took wayyyyy longer than the actual 2-3 minute final run.
1
Dear Americans, please join the rest of the world by DITCHING YOUR USELESS UNITS ... inches, miles, feet, yards ... "division by 10" makes conversion from one to the other A LOT LESS PAINFUL. Oh and ... as "a rebellious colony" you should have done that a long time ago to something called "IMPERIAL units".
1
Painting a MK 1 ??? Just build it "for real", i.e. from metal instead of resin or whatnot.
