Competition is GOOD ... but the USA doesnt allow new euro-trucks to be imported ... but the 20 year old ones that can be imported are still decades ahead.

"Driving FAST" is a function of "how fast your car can go" AND "how fast you DARE drive it". My 37 year old VW Passat (with the smallest engine possible at the time) can get up to 160km/h, but ... a) it starts drinking heavily and b) it does feel a bit unsafe (because even though it is a big car ... it is VERY LIGHT - only about 1 ton, less than a modern Golf - and easily affected by wind. It also takes a while to get to that kind of speed, so out of respect for other drivers (and my wallet) ... I wont drive that fast.
2
@IWrocker Maybe "try to be better"? You are the example your children will copy! So stop using that lazy excuse. When I was little we were taught to "keep our elbows to ourselves" with an easy trick: stuff a book in your armpit ... and you need to keep it there. Start this with your kids!
2
He should probably try to rent one ... if he ever comes to Europe (unless it is with a whole bunch of the family).
2
Let's hope your FOOD CRISIS gets solved by RFK jr. ... who is poised to "oversee" the FDA in the Trump administration. [But yeah ... Trump is sooooo bad ... because the media told you so.]
2
The point of Rallye is ENGINEERING and to "test new components" for their durability. Americans dont have Rallye ... and thus they do the "scrap/completely rebuild a car after a jump for a movie" instead of building one car that can take it and drive on.
2
A baseball CAP ... is NOT "a hat"! It is an ADVERTISING SPACE for some club or slogan or whatever ... and it is UGLY!
2
@Ian A stabiliser wouldnt work with the guy filming #2 ... it's an italian and that means "big gestures".
2
Concerning "asphalt" ... this is a SCIENCE to get the right mix for it ... and a part of it ALWAYS is coming from "La Brea Pitch Lake" in TRINIDAD where there are giant lakes of the stuff that bubbles to the surface. The "solidified" surface can be harvested, but you can also break through the surface and "drown" in the stuff. It is an interesting subject.
2
Berlin ... top 5 of the "greenest / tree-iest cities in the world".
2
A plane "teleports" you from A to B ... thus you learn NOTHING about the land inbetween, but trains (and cars) give you a feeling about that inbetween space.
2
I doubt you would do such driving with "amateurs" on the track, where you dont really know how they will react when you approach.
2
#1 might have been a bit quicker if he'd had - "driven around the block" (but it could be a small village with just one road) - unhitched the trailer and pulled it around separately (unless that doesnt work because breaks become engaged automatically)
2
"The law" ... but who is going to charge people who dont comply? There might be some ... but an ambulance driver wont take a note of the license plates of cars blocking him.
2
Baseball CAPS ... are NOT "hats"!
2
@UnflatteringRat Actually ... he is right. Italy had the road that "inspired the Autobahn".
2
In Germany there are LOADS of half-timbered houses and they do require quite a bit of work to modernise ... while having some limitations (usually the plumbing and electricity and heating was put in in "creative" ways that waste space or arent clearly marked). Buying such a house can be relatively cheap, if you can consider €130.000 "cheap", but you should always include some money for repairs and modernisations. Of course you have to live with historians/inspectors, but that's far better than a completely boring new house.
2
Next time ... stop the car and tell the "customer" to GET OUT! It would be best to do it in front of a LIBRARY!
2
As for safety: I recently looked up the figures for DEATHS BY CAR ACCIDENT in Germany ... and it is about 7 per day (82 million people), ~37 from general accidents (at home, workplace), currently ~105 from "the coof" ... the total is about 2700-3000 per day.
2
The biggest "american problem" is the SUPER EXTRA SIZE OF THE ROADS ... which make any crossing for a pedestrian "a hike". I live in Berlin and the average width of a road is one lane in each direction plus (optional) parked cars on either side. That makes traffic EASY TO "UNDERSTAND" for a pedestrian and thus increases safety due to the fact that you dont have to look out for 3+ lanes of cars at different speeds "aiming for you" (because the pedestrian is a nuisance in the USA).
2
Having an accident would be far worse than paying for maintenance every (second) weekend.
2
Whenever I bake my own bread I want to start "digging in" immediately ... and I do a pretty heavy "nutty" bread with sunflower seeds. It has to cool down / DRY a bit though, because otherwise it can not be cut into slices (whenever your knife has dough on it after cutting ... it isnt ready yet.
2
You forgot the navigator AND the fact that it is a race against time instead of other cars, where a tiny mistake can mean you dont finish at all.
2
That kind of money wont even be close to enough ... I have a "simple" rebuilding of a 100m² apartment in a half-timbered house that was a shop and will be turned into an apartment ... and the estimates are ~€300.000
2
Obviously people from Australia speak "'strayan".
2
Medical cocktail ...
2
BAKE YOUR OWN BREAD, Ian ...
2
"Lifting trucks" is for people who ... "have issues".
2
It isnt just "big corporate" that is preventing IMPROVEMENTS ... it is the general "we are the best country in the world" ARROGANCE that stops many americans to TAKE ADVICE FROM ANYONE ELSE.
2
Nope ... they are real.
2
There is a rollbar directly behind their head, they have the necbrace to "stiffen" that area and they are pretty tightly fitted in the tiny cockpit. I'd suspect there is far bigger "freedom to go places" inside a Nascar cockpit.
2
Metal conducts heat the best ... thus it DRAINS YOUR BODY HEAT if you are on a giant construction high above the ground ... and the "holey" construction of the tower gives easy access to WIND, which can drain your body heat in places where you arent touching metal. As a material scientist I would advise to NOT DO SUCH A THING ...
1
Fun fact: In POTSDAM (slightly southwest of Berlin) there is a "Holländisches Viertel", which was built 1733-42 in the same style ... except the houses arent built at a canal and they are a bit wider and less tall (2 levels + 1 in the attic) ... because prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm I. was fond of the dutch culture.
1
The problem with ANTIBIOTICS GIVEN TO ANIMALS is that it is "the last antibiotic we have" ... and viruses always get resistant to them eventually, so it is necessary to constantly develop new ones ... which is hard / becomes harder and harder AND is also expensive.
1
@sandersson2813 WRONG ... those killings arent from LEGALLY OWNED GUNS ... and the problematic ones are ALREADY ILLEGAL!
1
@IWrocker concerning "Toyota Hilux" I'd suggest you watch a video called "A War That Was Fought With Toyotas" (by Count Dankula) ... which explains why these Toyotas became the workhorse of "certain military forces".
1
There is an OLDER VERSION of this solution: FENSTERLÄDEN / SHUTTERS (on the outside of the window).
1
She is driving with "heavenly protection" ...
1
7:30 European houses dont have "closets" because our houses are a) OLD (100 years ISNT old) and b) have far less space to waste on a place where you put far too much clothes in. People had simple TRUNKS for their clothes ... because they didnt own that many of them!
1
"Thanks mom" ?!?!?!?!
1
These might be VERY EXPENSIVE ... because I have basically "an enclosed walkway" with glass panes on the top of ~4,5m length ... which each cost around €1000 (15+ years ago).
1
If american children learned just the names of the countries which their country has destabilised ... they could name at least 3 per continent (except Australia).
1
6:10 "What is that?" My guess: the TOILET ... which has been dismantled a few decades ago.
1
12:15 Easy: NO ONE ELSE CARES about baseball! It is yet another american sport that is MADE FOR ADVERTISING BREAKS just like American "Foot""ball", which is neither played with a foot nor a ball (which is SPHERICAL and not a "pointy egg shape").
1
If you're american ... dont come to Germany to drive on the Autobahn either ...
1
TEXT BASED SIGNS are stupid ... because READING takes longer than "interpreting a STANDARD picture". A red triangle with a jumping deer is pretty self-explanatory for example ...
1
Pure electric cars are stupid ... and the only sensible way is to have a) a petrol engine to generate the power for the electric motors OR b) have the petrol engine provide the "basic speed" and the electric engines do the peak/acceleration speed and provide power for this. If you look at the start of the round he can get up to 272 km/h, but at the end max. speed is down to 244 ... because the charge in the batteries went down! For this reason you NEED the constant recharge through a SMALLER THAN NORMAL petrol engine/generator.
1
Americans pay half ... but waste far more, because you NEED TO DRIVE ... EVERYWHERE. In the end europeans are going to spend less on average.
1
13:45 Pride of WHAT? Having destabilised yet another country in the world? [Libya, Syria, Ukraine, ...] The point being: LEARN TO CRITICISE YOUR COUNTRY / BUREAUCRATS ... and FIX THINGS! As a german I KNOW about "Kadavergehorsam" ... which can lead to wars (WWI to be precise, NOT the other one).
1
Cars probably got bigger due to safety concerns requiring them to have a "cabin" that would protect the driver in case of an accident. That requires space and the seating position of the driver goes back quite a bit ... which might also be due to aerodynamics ... i.e. the cars being designed for higher top speed / better acceleration / more fuel economy.
