Here is a novel idea on how to reduce emissions: STOP WASTING ELECTRICITY. Air conditioning - which has made the south "livable" for the masses - is a major waste of energy, because a good coal power plant only outputs 35% of the energy within the coal as electrical power, the rest is lost/wasted. Heating your room directly with the coal is at worst just as wasteful but potentially better. Oh and if you could start building houses from stone instead of (cheaper) wood, you might notice that STONE KEEPS HOUSES COOL ... so you might not need air conditioning. The only way to solve this problem is to not be wasteful with energy and it is depressing that a high-tech country like the USA completely discards an area of new technology instead of trying to be among the forerunners (and thus make a profit from it).
