Personally I think a constitutional monarchy is the best, where the heir to the throne ... - is trained from birth to take up this responsibility AND - serves as quality control for the government, i.e. he is able to punish them for doing a bad job. The first part is important because none of our politicians are very responsible in office ... and they dont govern "for the people" anymore but rather "for the money".

  3. Most literary critics dont understand it either because the book is focused on "the military" ... which leads them to call the book fascist. This is clearly wrong and Heinlein could just have written a book about a "Johnny Rico, sewer cleaner extraordinaire" ... who deals with society`s shit to get the vote. That book would have sold ZERO copies and would have been written in an afternoon. Oh and "literary critique" is a LEFTIST domain, so they obviously call it fascist (which communists have done all the time during the Cold War.

  4. Nah ... not military service (which is pointless unless you are at war). You could also have other awful work like sewer cleaning, care of old people and so on as possible choices. Stuff that people usually dont like to do and that is tedious. We used to have the draft here in Germany and you could choose a non-military service too, which included such jobs. The idea of the draft to make everyone SERVE SOCIETY for a time is quite good IMO.

  7. You completely miss the point of the book and the political ideology. The point is that THE SERVICE NEEDS TO BE HARD to instill the sense of RESPONSIBILITY in those who serve and then get the vote in return. As Razcheck says: "something given has no value" ... and this is the problem of todays western society where the kids get sooo many things handed to them for free that they dont value these things anymore. Also I would point to the quote from Kennedy: "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Today it is the reverse ... but it SHOULD BE like Kennedy said.

  10. Not really ... because it is more about WILLPOWER and DETERMINATION rather than aptitude for a job. You can serve in other ways too but all of them are harsh and you need the will to pull through. This is done on purpose to instill the sense of RESPONSIBILITY in the future voters.

Here in Germany we have a "basic law" which gives us the right to "resist" anyone who tries to change the power structure of the state from "voters vote in politicians who govern for us" to something else. This does apply - IMO - to the transfer of power to Brussels, which would give us the right to even kill people to prevent this "destruction of german independence". This has made me realize that feminists and SJWs are actually monsters all the time, because they never learned to control it, due to their absolut lack of self-control and missing ability to self-critique. In that regard feminists/SJWs are still TODDLERS who are sometimes called "little tyrants" because they are always demanding from others and are crying/yelling when they are displeased ... which is exactly like the behaviour of SJWs and feminists.

The problem is that SOME PEOPLE never change their ways and ALWAYS stay in the same mindset of a toddler. Jordan Peterson has this image of "good people being capable of becoming monsters BUT also having their inner monster under control". There are some people - feminists and SJWs - who are ALWAYS monsters, because they always "yell and cry and blame others for any hardships" ... which makes them behave exactly like toddlers, because they were never told to "grow up" and to "take some RESPONSIBILITY"! Due to the VAST distances it would be hard to have these things surprise you because they usually do NOT travel at light speed and could be anticipated/countered. The meteor that destroyed Buenos Aires MUST HAVE been sudden and very very fast, so it will have been something not natural.

  25. Please ... do NOT hope for "liberals" to survive ... because it is ALWAYS the liberals who allow the extremists to take power ... because liberals "allow everything and forbid nothing". Liberals have ZERO PRINCIPLES they defend ... and this is their flaw! An example: First the extremists ask for gay marriage, then they (predictably) ask for gays to be allowed to adopt children, then they start transition kids, ... its the "death by a thousand tiny cuts" tactic which could only have been prevented by saying "you CAN have your gay marriage ... but it wont be called marriage ... because gays are - no matter how much you rant - not the norm AND they arent the ones who will create the next generation". This would have given gay couples the same tax benefits and inheritance rights as married couples but also given a clear distinction between "normal couples" and "not-normal couples". Heinlein's society WILL BECOME NECESSARY IMO ... because we are clearly in a society "led by the elites": - the UK has a clear disconnect between pro-EU politicians/media-elites and the common people - social media corporations see themselves as "opinion shapers for dumb Trump voters"
