I had a developer inquire into my property. When I declined he said with a smirk, "We'll see about that." I let him get pretty far into it before I informed his people that there are 3 protected and at least 1 endangered species on my property. His smirk went away.

20ish years ago my neighbor found out the value of my 500+ yr old live oak he had cut down while I was out of town. He was forced to sell his home.

The FBI seems to be misleading judges a lot lately.

An American court makes a classification ruling about a Mexican food item? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Same thing happened to me. A neighborhood sprung up behind my home. Their HOA kept trying to fine me for everything imaginable.

@christopherg2347 I have a Masters in Electrical Engineering. With my first job at a nuclear power plant we had to mop our own floors and clean our own toilets.

@cygnus_XI This was nearly 30 years ago so I may get some of the details wrong. St Charles/Carrolton Aves in New Orleans are lined with beautiful centuries old oak trees that hang over the street. It's part of the character of the city. The city maintained the limbs that hung over the streets to maintain a minimum clearance for trucks. My new neighbor wanted to park his massive RV next to his home but was blocked by a limb of my tree. The first time I met him he was ordering me to cut down my tree. I refused because it was protected by city ordinance. And also the area he wanted to park the behemoth was mostly my property. He had a lawyer contact me. I told him what I'm telling you. Then another lawyer. And if I recall another. Then one day when I returned from a business trip my tree was missing and his RV was parked on my property. He even had the audacity to sell the wood for a profit. Called the police. Called my lawyer. Filed a civil lawsuit. He actually tried to fight it. Fortunately for me he didn't didn't list that home as his primary residence so we were able to force it's sale to recoup damages. I don't recall him being arrested. But I do recall a fine of some sort. Every time I go to NO and pass my old house That big empty spot looks so out of place. I had the largest oak tree they could replant in it's place. Even after almost 30 years it doesn't compare to the centuries old oak it replaced.

So now the government is allowing them to park THEIR car in THEIR own driveway? How generous.

@Chris_at_Home Just get a few Houston Toads and a pair of Bald Eagles. You should see the look of terror in a developer's eyes. 😁😁😁😁😁😁

I was thrown out of a university class when I contradicted the professor. She insisted that Nixon started the Vietnam War and JFK ended it.

When I was a little kid our apartment manager had a few non existent maintenance employees. I still remember the police leading her away in handcuffs.

I'd like to know more. A prospective client demanded that I sign an NCA the stated for 7 years my engineering company would need their approval to take on any engineering projects. And forced arbitration would take place in Croatia. I left the building as soon as I could stop laughing.
27
They look just like squirrels. 😁

I had one employer try to get me to sign a non-competition and non-disclosure agreements after I was forced by them to resign. They even threatened to sue. Agreement or not I would never disclose anything but I did take a contact with their competition.

@mitchhaelann9215 There's a list somewhere from the state and a college. Don't recall any trees but there were some other plants on the list. They show up every year and scoop up buckets of tadpoles for relocation and do a survey. There's a massive property tax break to do absolutely nothing with my 510 acres. I work very hard to do as little as humanly possible. 😁
21
@mr.behaving I have often wonder what would happen if some of my Houston Toads made their way to a property who's developer had p!$$ed me off.

When I was a kid there was a New Orleans cop (I still remember his name) that was on the job with misdemeanor and federal convictions as well as very questionable actions. He was finally fired when while in another parish (Jefferson) caused a wreck, attacked the victim then drew his gun and menaced the responding State Troopers.
19
@MatronWisdom They sent letters. I believe he left out a lot of the information that they should have had to make an informed decision. Which is why he couldn't keep an attorney. Or maybe his rich daddy thought he could intimidate me. But threatening me wasn't going to change a city ordinance or allow him to park on my property.

"I find myself not guilty on all charges"

I'm out of the country for months at a time. I notify my alarm company. If an interior or access alarm goes off they're instructed to either send out their security officers or the police.
16
@JasonEDragon The court has ruled. The students in a fit of "look at me and how woke I am" cost the college over $30 million. At no time were they fighting racism. They were jumping on a bandwagon and shouting "look at me look at me". Experience has taught me that these people are always more trouble than they are worth. Do you own a business? Would you hire someone whose intolerance, stupidity and narcissism cost someone else $30 million?
16
Would you hire the student's that organized the protests and falsely labeled the bakery owners? These are things I look for when considering an applicant. Their narcissism and sense of entitlement costing their college over $30 mullion is a definite red flag.

I've spoken to an acquaintance here in Texas that has a very large ranch. She said that most ranchers have every head backordered. She is simply not selling to Kalifornia. It won't effect her in the least.
14
@richdiddens4059 Yes I know. My dad was one of those "advisors" (Army SF, He advised they stay low and shoot north). The professor had an agenda. When I pointed out that Nixon was President after JFK thus her timeline was impossible she blew a fuse.
14
@seeigecannon A bit extreme. Good they had a CEO that could read and comprehend. I've signed NDA's concerning a clients intellectual property and privacy. Perfectly understandable. I've also had clients that demanded an NDA/NCA that would have forced me to drop most of our other clients.
12
I had a '09 Land Rover LR4 that was so bad when I brought up lemon laws the dealer didn't even bat an eye.
12
I worked for a company that within days of installing new inventory software massive losses were detected. For some reason nobody in the Board of Directors could put 2 and 2 together.
12
@Chris_at_Home When I was a kid my employer (Pet Shop) also had a successful B&B/Farm in N Louisiana. After fighting for years the power company put massive power line towers across his property. One in front. One in back. Nobody wanted to stay there anymore and he lost everything including the pet shop. I was 13 and learned never to trust the government.

@PeterShipley1 Corrupt New Orleans DA Harry Connick Sr made a 30 year long career out of it.
12
New Orleans DA Harry Connick Sr spent 30 years in office railroading innocent bla-que men for crime he knew they didn't commit. He's still considered a hero in the city.

Someone who may or may not have been my lawyer told me to first ask to see my lawyer. Then complain of chest pains and shortness of breath. It served me well when I was involved in a defensive shooting.

Of a certain age? 😁😁😁 Can you also recite the Preamble of the Constitution and the ingredients of a McDonalds Big Mac?

In the 90's my neighbor cut down a 300 yd old oak tree in my yard while I was on vacation. I was awarded $37K plus legal expenses. And that was nearly 30 years ago. He got off way easy.

If M.O. got pregnant is Holliday Inn responsible for child support?
9
Patents work the same way. DiMarzio Guitar Pickups will steal a patent then sue the owner into bankruptcy. Or copywrite commonly used terms and even colors.
9
@danven1256 Completely off topic but I knew an incredibly skilled paint and body man that would buy severely wrecked cars to test/improve his skills. One wrecked in the front. The other in the back. He's cut n' paste them together and they were better than new. Problem was he rarely ever broke even.
9
That 3 1/2 minutes doesn't include the drive home either.
8
Back in high school I drove a tow (legal then) truck in Jefferson Parish, LA. We were heavily regulated by both the Parish Police and State Police. If there was a complaint one or the other would investigate depending on where the towing occurred.
8
And people wonder why most of my collection are pre '74.
8
@SmittyAZ Thus conveniently having some sort of medical emergency. Can't force a confession out of someone strapped to a gurney and being rushed to the emergency room.
8
@Scubesnax And if you have the money you can fight DiMarzio. The sued Kinman pickups out of their patents. Did the same thing to his friend and mentor Bill Lawrence. The did a copywrite on PAF. A common term for a Gibson pickup for decades. Cream pickup bobbins, also used by Gibson for decades are now the intellectual property of DiMarzio. From the Urban Dictionary... Dimarzio An unethical pickup manufacturer that steals designs and concepts and then uses obscure legalities to screw over the rightful owners of these designs and concepts. Dimarzio can also be used to describe blood in your stool "Hey this pickup is better than anything I could ever design. It's Dimarzio time."

@HariSeldon913 They are placed close to the road to prevent road hunting. Shooting from a road is illegal and dangerous.

@MonkeyJedi99 🤣🤣🤣

Several years ago one of my clients (200ish employees) in San Francisco asked me what it would take to build a security fence around a large A/C unit? I said a trip to Home Depot. He told me he had already spent thousands and fought for years with his city council. He moved his entire business to the Fort Worth area.

Musk is only asking for 40 hrs a week. But that's 3x to 10x what Twitter employees are accustomed to.
7
When I lived in Georgia if your car didn't pass, for a few dollars more the inspector would pull in another car he knew would pass.
7
@Chris_at_Home How much of your property did they steal?
7
Strap yourselves in Illinois. You're in for a bumpy ride.
7
I have 510 acres and do occasionally find mystery game cameras. I usually just shoot them down. Never considered that they might be government property. Oh well.
7
Seems that it would be better for the dealer to replace the cat rather than lose all sorts of business. I certainly wouldn't bring my car anywhere that behaved like that.
