  16. Buying BRKB in 1983 was the Best financial decision I ever made. It made me, a product of the poor state of Mississippi, comfortable in my old age. If you go through life never thinking about the future, your road will be financially rough which clearly means you value today much more than tomorrow. Life in all respects is simple, most people complicate life by making irrational decisions. Get a mirror, look into it and honestly evaluate your life. Most people would agree with my prognosis.

  19. The fact that Buffet doesn't invest billions in real estate doesn't mean that individuals can't make a lot (in the scale of an individual) with real estate on smaller deals. He is talking about what applies to him and his case (big scale), not to the "buy a home, take a residential loan, stay two years and then rent it out, rinse and repeat" strategy that is very strong for an individual but doesn't scale beyond a couple, maybe a few million dollars, as you can only do it once every two years at best... Monger also specified that real estate is a lousy investment IF you are under chapter C of tax code. That's their case and it's very sound. It doesn't mean that real estate isn't great in other contexts. He's only talking about the Berkshire Hathaway context ...

I remember decades ago driving across North Louisiana for work, picking up this guy on FM radio yelling about finances and thinking how cool he was way before he was famous.
