When my man calls his mom/parents I quiet everything in the house down, tell him to say hi for me and give him space so he can enjoy talking to his parents. When we go on vacation and visit them I clean their home while they're at work so they can hang out and relax with us after work. Then his mom and me bond while making dinner and I clean up. If your spouse can't respect your parents it's time for them to go.

@worldserpent731 I hope it is as well but I have sadly seen a lot of women hate on their mother in law's like they are competition. It's terrible. Just seems like a lot of unnecessary drama to me though. I absolutely love that my in-laws love me and that I get hugs and forehead kisses from them rather than awkward glares and stares.

@jbizz334 you still have to respect them and be kind/civil. It's your partner's place to have enough strength and respect for you to tell their parents how they can't treat you and to set boundaries with them. My mom can be brutal but knows not to pull any of that with my man because she will have consequences to deal with from me. She has shown him nothing but respect because I have set boundaries with her and she knows I will not tolerate any sort of disrespect towards him at all.

@michellemcgill9328 yes I love this! I wish my mother in law lived closer so I could go shopping with her all the time! When I do get to see her we always go shopping and to the thrift shops! Good bless to your beautiful relationship with your mother-in-law!

@ShaggyRogers1 I completely agree and that's why it is soo important to make sure to pick a spouse that respects you enough to put boundaries and consequences towards the toxic mother. My mom can be very toxic and brutal but has never been like that with my man because she knows I won't stand for disrespect towards him or my relationship. She understands that my relationship comes first and she has no right to try to butt in.
