  1. "Essential" is an opinion. Freedom of speech, assembly, and religion are the FIRST AMENDMENT to our constitution. This means that they're off limits for government. Our bill of rights is a list of things the government can't meddle in and speech/assembly/religion are at the top of the list. This leaves us uniquely vulnerable to harmful religions, but it's still our way of life. It is our culture to demand that government stay out of the business of preventing people from believing or saying what they feel like.
