  1. He has the correct idea about the inability to change their minds. Unfortunately he doesn't realize how insane people genuinely are. Some people actually will drive over to his house and do the criminal stuff just because they can. They do not care about self-preservation or going to jail. They have no thoughts beyond "Errm, guy made me mad"

  2.  @benja9029  Most people are sane enough to realize this, yes. Some people are actually crazy though and can't process the idea of punishment.
