  1. ESG is a symptom. The cause was the response of occupy wall st. Big business realized that right-wingers will do nothing to stop them, but progressives will. So in response, they adopted progressive ideology as a core tenet of doing business and forced it on all western businesses. Even some eastern businesses like those in Japan such as Sony try to go along with ESG in order to get ESG investment and banking capital. It has become almost a required religion for anyone doing business in western countries.
