  2. Jake, EVERYONE did know about this! It is what actual economists were saying whole time! War economy is a flaw, not a feature. Russia was holding itself only thanks to massive welfare found, accumulated through decades of robbery. Russia already defaulted in first year of the conflict. It isn't that economists were wrong about collapse of Russian economy, as that no one could predict how far Putin is willing to tank it with fixing. But the seduce was always: Year 1: default, Year 2: depletion of reserves, Year 3: attrition of economy, Year 4: cascade collapse, Year 5: cleanup. We are technically ahead of schedule, slightly.
