To afford a big house in a good neighborhood and two cars, as quickly as it was possible in 50s, plus being able to pay for education of all of your kids, plus afford retirement without lowering expenses, you'll need somewhere around that amount. Maybe not $600k, but $400k minimum, likely $500k. Remember that taxes would eat large part of your salary.

  6. I'm just studying right now, and not working yet, but I would rather never retire completely(although vacations are a must have). More money you have, more stuff you can buy and more financially secure you are. After all, modern marriage doesn't worth it(unless you're orthodox jewish, muslim, amish or mormon), so I don't have to worry about spending too much time at work.

  13.  @MrMarinus18  very simple, there are several axes of political left—right. First one is taxes and redistribution of wealth. Right wing government seeks to tax poor relatively more(regressive tax rate), centrists seek to tax everyone equally, left wing seeks to tax rich more(progressive tax rate). Second one is interests of indigenous ethnic groups vs interests of immigrants. Right wing government empowers indigenous people(usually by restricting migration and trying to deport those who already came) and makes laws that favourites the indigenous people, centrists allow migration, but only skilled/hard working and apply the law equally. Left wing ones prioritize interests of immigrants. Third one is family/traditions. Right wing tries to encourage and protect traditional families and interests of man over interests of women. Centrist tries to push equality. Left wing protects and empowers women

  15. Why your primary residence is so expensive? Unless you're 40+ it would be better to have those $2.3m(or $2m, pretty sure you can afford something for $300k) invested in stocks, while you live in a car. At least that's what I would do

  17. Since my comment was deleted I will write it here. Here it goes: I hope new unions won't appear and existing ones will be supressed. Unions are inherently unfair and give workers too much leverage at expense of business owners. On top of that, they won't solve the problem of decent life conditions being unaffordable, since this problem mostly exists because of zoning laws and too much permissions being required to build multistory buildings

  25.  @ariefraiser140  1)it is ridiculous to make conclusion based only on your own experience. 2)Intelligence is influenced mainly by genetics and environment. Both work negatively towards people from working class or third world country population(compared to first world country population in general). If europeans, for example, gave birth to more children, there would be no need to import immigrants, and average intelligence in europe would be higher. That would mean we would be able to create thermonuclear reactors much faster and stop relying on fossils(plus we could recycle trash more effectively).

And only some time AFTER fertility dropped to roughly modern levels, income inequality started to rise(and inverse of it to drop). And as it dropped, fertility rate remained stable. 2)The only solution is to lower ages of marriage/consent

US did best in its early stages(before 1861), Latin America also did best under "right wing"(actually centrist) governments(look at Pinochet times). Nordics are different. Sweden is in huge trouble, Norway benefited from oil, Denmark and Finland, as far as I know, don't allow illegal migrаtiоn.
