  1. When people talk about preservibg humanity through Mars settlement, they forget that basically the same can be done through making bunkers somewhere in Siberia, Northern Canada or Antarctica. Even in case of VERY huge asteroid it will be enough unless the asteroid is the size of Texas, like in Armaggedon movie. The only asteroids/dwarf planets that has such size is Ceres and few others, but the probability of them crashing into Earth is basically equal to zero.
