Instead of working hard for a company who deigned to give you a job you all expect a promotion as if it's some obligation company has to fulfill. The problem is that higher in corporate ladder you go, less positions are there. If people averagely have many children and population grows fast enough, then yes, you can expect a raise just for working many years for a company because in 20 years there are enough people to let all the older people to be managers, but it's not the case in US. Which means that to get a promotion it's not enough to just work extra hours, you need to work more than people you compete against for a position. Having skills that make you more suited for a position you want than other competitors is also a condition, as company is not a charity. Switching companies every two years or so of course would pay more because there's a risk of getting unemployed embedded in doing so. So you can do quiet quitting, but you only fool yourself by doing so.
