@terminusest5902 "Germany operated a large number of F-104. Many pilots died in them." Denmark too operated those planes. We too experienced mechanical problems, but I don't think we had any fatal accidents. So maybe the original post is correct: It was his grandfather as a mechanic who was responsible for downing all those German planes.
