@TheThirstyOtter yes. I was thinking of what happened in Yugoslavia after Tito died. Though there I think it took a little time before civil war erupted. I suspect that in Russia if Putin was removed from power things could happen very fast. Though Stalin dominated the Soviet Union even more than Putin now dominates Russia and even though the Soviet Union was made of many states it still didn't disintegrate after Putin died. But then the Soviet Union in the 1959s was much stronger than Russia is today and was not getting humiliated in a war and was not hurtling towards bankruptcy.

Just thinking that the top mobsters in Chicago in the 1920s had their own private armies in the 1920s and beyond and their life expectancy was still pretty short - in fact a lot shorter than the life expectancy of regular folk. Sometimes the leaders of other private mobster armies or even their own second in command would decide that it was time for their life to end.

@katinazis oh sure Russian troll. Putin could have declared war any time he wanted and won the war within days but he never has because he enjoys watching vast numbers of his troops become casualties and seeing his stores of tanks, missiles and shells and foreign reserves run down towards zero and he especially enjoys having his army and himself get humiliated for endless months by a much smaller country and get mocked around the world. Whatever you say.

Hoping that Russian disintegration does not lead to nuclear war. As horrific as the Russian dictatorship is today to have Russia in a chaotic civil war with a number of different militias each having control over their own nuclear weapons would not be a good thing.
