@alexlazar4738 interesting that you complain about the same democracy that allows you to post on this platform. Try criticizing the Russian government in Russia or the Chinese government in China online snd you'll find that without democracy you'll end up in prison very quickly. So right now you are being a hypocrite posting online protected by democracy while saying you have no need for democracy. I presume then that as you don't want to be a hypocrite you will no longer be posting anything online.

@alexlazar4738 NATO doesn't ask countries to join countries to join NATO. Eastern European countries (and now Finland and Sweden) asked to join NATO for protection against a Russia which they knew was the last country in the world (with the possible exception of Russia's friends Serbia and China) with an 18th century Imperialist mindset. Other Imperialist European countries have unlike Russia almost completely given up their empires and have chosen to live in peace with their neighbors because they now see the stupidity of the centuries of European wars. All Russia has to do to be safe is to behave like other European countries and live in peace and stop all its unprovoked genocidal invasions of other countries. It's Imperialist Russia that is completely responsible for countries wanting to join NATO and for the unprovoked Russian invasions of Ukraine (and of Georgia and of Chechnya and of Moldova) snd for any tensions between Russia and the rest of Europe. It seems to stem from the fact that Putin (like China's leader) is a very weak, paranoid, insecure, little man suffering from paranoid delusions and afraid of his own shadow and under the delusion that Ukraine was going to attack and conquer Russia or that Lithuania was going to attack and conquer Russia or that etc., etc., ...., when no country other than China has any intention of attacking Russia. Plus the fact that many Russians seem to share Putin's paranoid delusions.

@ardagus9917 They didn't say that there is anything wrong with that. They were just asking an honest question - if the video was not referring to Russian troops on the border with Finland then where are the Russian arctic troops he was talking about? Although the fact that Russia removed virtually all its troops from its border with Finland just when Finland joined NATO makes clear that the Russian dictatorship knows very well that NATO never intended to threaten or attack Russia and that Russia's invasion into Ukraine has absolutely nothing to do with NATO.

China faces an impending demographic collapse when it is not yet a high income country with full social programs such as old age pensions. Fertility rate of 1.05, 20% fewer women then men in reproductive age groups, a decline in its workforce of 38 million people in last 3 years and huge amounts of emigration and almost no immigration. In 30 years China will have a smaller much older population with a much smaller workforce and many more seniors while countries such as Canada and the United States will have grown dramatically in population. And I don't think that lending vast amounts of money to countries that can't pay it back is going to help China financially support its senior citizens in 30 years. If China still plans to replace the United States as the world's most powerful and important economy it better do so in the next 15-20 years or it's never going to happen and even if it does happen within 20 years I think that by 40 years from now the United States will again be the world's preeminent economy as China struggles with demographic collapse. Perhaps instead India's economy could surpass that of the United States but of that I am so far skeptical.

@RangerB66 sorry but that's not true. No fan of Russia but most experts feel that the main reason why Japan surrendered when it did was because the Soviet Union declared war on Japan. That is what fits best with the timing of the surrender. The Japanese emperor and government may have said that they were surrendering as a result of the American atomic bombs because it was less humiliating to say Japan could not continue when confronted with weapons of immense power but the timing of the surrender suggests it was actually the Soviet declaration of war that tipped the balance. It could be that the Japanese had hoped (reasonably) that the United States would not be willing to put up with the horrific casualties that would occur in trying to invade Japan (and that was the case) but that the Japanese figured that Stalin valued his troops so little that he wouldn't care how many of his soldiers died during an invasion of Japan. Also, being occupied by the American or British was one thing but the prospect of being invaded by the Soviets would have been a horrendous fate for Japan. As well it likely is true that Japan wanted to surrender as soon as possible to the Americans, British and Canadians before the Soviet Union had more time to seize Asian territory occupied by Japan.

In 2021 Nigeria imported over 3 billion dollars in wheat. This year Nigeria is expected to import 6 million metric tons of wheat (grains according to another source). Just because you saw people in Nigeria eating cassava doesn't mean that Nigeria doesn't import wheat and it certainly doesn't mean that other African countries aren't importing wheat. In the 2021-22 year Ukraine exported over 6 million tons of wheat to Africa.

If Trump becomes president and forces Ukraine to sign a "peace treaty" with bad terms for Ukraine It's inevitable that Russia will attack Ukraine again once Russia has rebuilt its military and that if Russia succeeds in conquering Ukraine then there will be more Russian invasions into Europe to follow. As well a Trump win may give a green light to North Korea to invade South Korea and a green light to China to invade Taiwan and invade other countries in the region and a green light to other dictators and demagogues around the world to invade their neighbours. It would likely take the world over a century to recover from another Trump presidency. Dictators and demagogues around the world will be happy if Trump wins .... though he is still a loose cannon and that will become worse as his senility advances.

@Maybe-cg2tn actually I once knew a car mechanic who told me that if he got a flat tire on the highway he would never change it himself - he would call for roadside assistance and get the guy who showed up in a tow truck to do it. Sure my friend knew how to change a tire and how to do a lot of other car related repairs but he didn't think it was worth it to risk his life changing a tire while a stream of cars traveling 100 km/hr flew by just 2 or 3 meters away at most. So getting a new tire put on is not a trivial matter in some locations.

@johnkarls2132 the United States has made clear to Russia that Russia will face immense consequences if it uses a nuclear weapon. I don't know what those consequences would be accept I'm sure that they are not something Russia ever wants to deal with. Plus Russia is now severely weakened and has become a vassal state of China and as aggressive as it is I don't think that China would be pleased about Russia starting a nuclear war. Plus using a nuclear weapon would make Russia even more of a pariah. Plus some military experts have said that a nuclear weapon may not be that effective in terms of winning this war because Ukrainian troops are soread out over a vast area. Plus if Russia used a nuclear weapon around Crimea it could contaminate a significant part of Crimea which would not be good for Russia if it is still occupying Crimea. Plus without even taking Crimea back Ukraine will be able to destroy the Crimean bridge and cut off Crimea's water supply once they take back the rest of Ukraine which would leave Russian forces and civilians In Crimea with very limited supplies and very limited water. Russia dealt with the lack of supplies and lack of water in Crimea before but then they didn't have to deal with Ukraine regularly firing Himar missiles into Russian military positions in Crimea.

Perhaps but it's not entirely fair to compare Taiwan to Israel which has received vast amounts of aid from the United States over the decades and likely vast amounts of aid from people abroad who support Israel. It's also not entirely fair to compare Taiwan to South Korea which has benefited from having a sizeable force of American troops on its territory for decades thus easing the burden on South Korea to be ready to defend itself.

@vrenak When Kenya became free and independent people living there who wanted to still live on British territory moved back to Britain - they didn't cut off a chunk of territory to create a new British country. The same happened when India, Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, etc., etc. became independent. If people in Moldova or other countries that used to be part of the Russian empire still want to live on Russian territory then they should move back to Russia. I suggest a joint Ukrainian/NATO incursion into Russian controlled territory in Moldova after which each person on that territory is asked if they want to live in Moldova in which case they stay or if they want to live in Russia in which case they will be required to return to Russia. Having a Russian state west of Ukraine in what is supposed to be the territory of Moldova is a threat to the security of all countries in the area.

I find it amusing that you can use the name of any country in the world and no matter how prosperous, safe and stable is that country if you put that country's name in the blank for the google eearch "__________ is in decline" you will find videos in which someone will tell you that there are systematic problems in that country that have put it in long term decline. I'm pretty sure that it is not true that every country in the world is in decline. Afghanistan, Russia, Somalia, Haiti, Venezuela sure but Germany? I don't believe it. The complaint that it's too expensive to live in prosperous places so everybody is leaving sounds a bit like the old joke, "Nobody goes there anymore - it's too busy". Places are expensive because lots of people do want to live there and people want to live in well organized and run places with lots of government regulations. Places which are inexpensive and with few government regulations or taxes generally aren't very well run, have few government services and generally aren't very nice places to live and few people want to move there. As they say taxes are the price we pay for living in a civilized society.

As much as to save Ukrainians from months and years of suffering and to teach Russia to stop invading countries NATO should have got involved in the Ukraine war to quickly destroy the terrorist Russian invaders to ensure that disruption to grain production and supply to poorer countries was very short-lived. I fear that with the war very possibly going into 2024 with grain and sunflower oil and fertilizer exports reduced the war may cause even more suffering and death in the Middle East and in Africa than it is in Ukraine. Though tragically, unless Ukraine carries out an amazingly successful counter offensive the war will likely go on until Russia goes broke which won't happen until the end of this year at the earliest. Also, last year Canada's Prime Minister said one day that given the war Canada would do what it could to maximize grain production in 2022. One farmer was not impressed by that comment and said "What is he talking about? We work to maximize grain production every year". In other words it can be hard for other grain producing countries to quickly increase production to make up for decreased exports from Ukraine and Russia.

In Developed countries people have the right to true democracy, the right to health care, the right to paid maternity leave, the right to a decent minimum wage, the right to go to university without being broke for decades paying student loans off, the right to abortion, the right to walk down the street without getting shot by a criminal and the right to not be killed by police. In the United States a lot of people say the heck with the above rights which they apparently consider to be communist and instead instead say the most important rights are the right to incredibly cheap gasoline, the right to work for a very low wage with no benefits and no union, the right for anyone to carry any type of gun anywhere and the right to be a white "Christian" conservative extremist which apparently means hating a lot of people for no particular reason, restricting women's rights, ignoring science and reality, the right to get filthy rich while sharing little with the poor and the right to be incredibly selfish and do whatever one wants with no thought for the consequences for others (so long as one is white). Admittedly the above beliefs are really just of the MAGA Republican minority cult which has vastly more power than it deserves due a bizarre Rube Goldberg election system tilted heavily in their favour. Think I can see the problem.

It's sad that Russia's aggressive, Imperialist dictatorship causes such a waste of resources - in Russia on all the money spent on Russia's imperialist military and in western countries which understandably then need to spend a lot of money on their militaries to prepare for the possibility of Russian invasion. If Russian governments would just decide to choose to live peacefully with their neighbours the way that other European countries do instead of regularly launching unprovoked invasions to steal territory from other countries then all that money could be used to do important, valuable things. But after Russia's Imperialist invasions into Moldova, Georgia, Chechnya (twice) and Ukraine (three times) over the past three decades plus regular threats by Russian politicians, officials, state media personalities and trolls European countries have no choice but to use a lot of resources to prepare for a potential Russian invasion.

@Georgije2 As long as you understand that you will then not be allowed to leave your property to go anywhere around it without explicit permission of the government that rules that land and that you will no longer have any right to the services normally provided by that government such as health care, pension, fire department service, police seevice, water supply, sewage disposal, etc., etc and obviously will have no right to work in the territory off of your property.

@chrism7969 one area in which a trade war between the west and China (or possibly the west and India) could possibly hurt the west is in essential medicines. The west relies on China and India a lot for essential medicines. It's understandable that people want cheaper drugs and if the cheapest sources are China and India then those are the places where production is cheapest then those are the places that will produce medicines for Western countries but if there ever was a sudden shutdown of trade for any reason a lot of people in the west would suddenly find out that they couldn't get medicines essential to their health and possibly their life. I think that Western countries should seriously examine the risks and vulnerabilities of continuing with this arrangement. I worry somewhat as well about the dominance of China and Chinese companies in producing solar panels and their great control over precious metals. And even cutting off the supply of a huge percentage of the items we buy in the store would have a huge impact. Very quickly our stores would be half empty. Once over the course of a month or so every time that I was in a store tried to find a water bottle not made in China. Couldn't find one so eventually I bought a water bottle made in China. As well a lot of sophisticated electronic products such as Apple products are made in China. We saw how lockdowns in China messed up supply chains. But that was tiny compared to what would happen with a complete trade war.

@alexlazar4738 have no idea why international organizations accept at face value anything the Russian government says about its economy. The Russian government lies about everything and all it does is spout propaganda. It's foolish to believe a terrorist Russian regime that said early last year that it would not invade Ukraine, which talks as if Ukraine and NATO attacked Russia and which still claims there is no war in Ukraine.
