Was just reading about Finland which didn't care about German goals and certainly didn't care about Italian and Japanese goals but which was in a such a difficult, isolated position that it had no choice but to fight alongside Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union. The Winter War from 1939 to 1940 had taught Finland that it could not rely on western countries or the League of Nations for help if it was attacked by the Soviet Union. And I don't know if the government of Finland knew this but apparently the Soviet government had plans to invade Finland again and would have done so if Germany had not attacked the Soviet Union. And Finland had seen what the Soviet Union had done to the Baltic states in 1940 and didn't want to experience that Soviet occupation itself.

  2. I was looking at a chart of the countries with the highest GDP in 1990. The G7 countries (along with their ally Spain) completely dominated. With the rise of China, India and Brazil that has changed somewhat.

  3. Ten years from now Putin, Xi, Modi, Biden (& Trump) and the elderly leaders of Iran will all be in their 80's or older and possibly all of them will be either dead or completely out of power. I wonder how a change in leadership in all those places might impact the politics in their countries and the relationships between their countries. Let us hope that none of them try to cling to power forever like Robert Mugabe.

  4. ​@danielhutchinson6604 Actually no. Despite your delusions the Netherlands has no plans to once again invade and occupy Indonesia. And actually oil production in western countries such as Canada and the United States has been dramatically increasing while oil production in Russia falls so no - it's not cheap Russian oil replacing American oil - it's the opposite if anything. All Russia needs to do to have peace is to stop launching unprovoked imperialist invasions into other countries to steal territory from them. And China should also learn that lesson and get rid of its imperialist ambitions. And it's not that Russia and China were offered as some gift to the world. Rather it was western countries that had the delusion that Russia and China were going to evolve to become more free and democratic and peaceful and so those western countries opened up trade with Russia and China and made massive investments in Russia and China. Unfortunately though Russia and China have instead become more and more oppressive and less and less free and more and more militaristic and aggressive towards their neighbours.
