  1. Some estimates are that the area around Chernobyl will not be safe to inhabit for over 20,000 years. A figure like that sort of gets one's attention, especially as it's been less than 12,000 years since the last ice age. No, I'm not saying that nuclear disasters have anything to do with ice ages. Just saying that over 20,000 years is a very long time. And no, I don't know the environmentally best solution as all energy sources have problems. Perhaps thermal energy (from shafts built 6 km deep) or nuclear fusion or tidal and wave energy combined with solid state battery storage once humans figure those things out.
