Just days before Russia invaded Ukraine one of the last American manufacturers of solar panels shut down permanently. The owners said that they just couldn't compete with cheaper solar panels produced by Chinese companies and that even places just down the road from them were buying Chinese solar panels. So after Russia invaded and everyone started talking about going electric and getting Europe off of its addiction to Russian fossil fuels I wondered if having the world switching from needing Russian fossil fuels to needing Chinese solar panels was really going to make western countries safer from extortion by a ruthless imperialist dictatorship, especially countries such as Canada and the United States that have plenty of their own fossil fuels. Though of course weaning the world off of fossil fuels is needed to reduce climate change. But it should be done without making the world vulnerable to economic extortion by a ruthless, imperialist dictatorship like China.

@valtonen77 Or maybe by 2050 virtually everyone will work from home online and almost all manual labour will be done by robots.
