  4.  @melvinbeck5047  The initial promise of consolidation between the old and new members would have been a good deal for both, but that has never happened. In reality after 16 years, consolidation is still a long way away and there is a very good reason for that. BMW, Mercedes (as an example in many...) who wants to produce in Hungary don't want to pay German wages, German property prices, German local Tax and so on. They want to pay 2nd grade citizen wages and they do so. It is about 1/5th COL what they spend for the same product, sold for the same price all around the world, creating excess profit, which is not taxed in Hungary as it leaves the country in a form of management fee to Luxembourg. You can imagine the state of the local companies after only a decade of free trade in 2004. If you put it mildly they were not ready to face Western European mammoth counterparts with endless cash flow. Opening free trade has practically wiped out local economies. If you go to these countries all big retailers are Western Europeans: Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and many more selling mainly foreign products to Hungarians, to Polish, to Czech and so on.. it is almost a 100 million people market. A very very valuable market indeed, which provides a massive profit for your people. So there has a lot been lost in this process and it is true that these countries are getting cohesion funds, but if you put it on a scale the benefit for the West is overwhelming. Just go out and try to find Hungarian products in your area, you will find it almost impossible. On the other hand Hungarians buy your products on a daily basis. The fundamental problem with Orban, is that he has recognized that local economy has to be rebuilt and he is doing just that. He has also pushed out IMF from the country which was also a big NO NO. His methods are questionable, as he is pushing wealth to individuals, but the end of the day someone has to own it as the state can't. He is going against big European corporate interest, hence the bad press and endless attempts of smear. On the other hand I hear bad things about FIDESZ from friends, who live there. But nothing like what you read here in the press. In this case the EU has a mechanism to regulate member states who are not abiding rules, it is called the 7th article. That is the process, which is agreed. Some want to circumvent this basic law, which I am sure you agree is unlawful. Hence Hungary saying stop. It is all very very simple at the end, it is all about corporate profit.
