  1. people seem to forget a bunch of wars of attrition occured during the cold war and shortly after the cold war notably the very bloody Iran Iraq war of the 80s and the Ethiopia Eritrea war of the 90s. And yes Europe has not experienced this kind of warfare since 1945.

  2. my view is that the Russians get baited to do major spring offensives which are stopped hard by the Ukrainians then the Ukrainians hit them with counteroffensives which drive deep into the Russian rear areas. and cut off the Russian offensives. If this happens I can see Russians losing large parts of the Donbass and probably capturing Melitopol. Putin will get even more desperate.
