  1. the commanding Russian general supposed to protect Kursk was General Lapin, the same Lapin who presided over the disaster of the Kharkov counteroffensive of late 2022 where the Russians got 3 divisions mauled, lost a lot of territory in eastern Ukraine and lost 450 tanks and APCs(mostly abandoned). in what Igor girkin said the worst Russian tank loss since Kursk 1943. Lapin was fired due to this but rehired to the Russian Eastern offensive of 2024, Im surprised he hasnt fallen out of a window yet. The worst Russian general of the war so far.

  2. from what I heard, the Russians withdrew most of their SAMs from Kursk region and deployed them to Crimea, the Ukrainians having heard this and know the area is manned by poor quality conscripts chose to attack this weak point, I think it probably surprised the Ukrainains on how successful it went , the Ukrainians who attacked were hard vets with air and artillery support, and complete air superiority over the Kursk area. the Russian conscripts mostly ran and surrendered.
