I think PUtin is still trying to micromanage the war, not as much as in 2022 after he about Garasimov. However, Putin still thinks he knows better than his generals or anyone else about strategy. hence his micromanagements down to the brigade level have led to disasters on the field. Putin has a very stubborn ego and will continue to do so.

the longer the war goes, the weaker Putin's grup on power becomes and he is also sick with cancer as strong persistant rumors go. however as of now april 20 2023, Putin still has a strong grip ojn power thru his security apparatus.

I think Putin perfectly knows what is going on, he just chooses to ignore those and forge on, just like his story about his battle with a rat when he was a kid. which is basically fight to the end. or at least fight until you get something out of it. With Ukraine its an existential fight, he loses he is done for. So he will keep on mobilizing and prosecuting the war until he gets an outome he is satisfied with , or he is overthrown.
