@hendrikbootha7285 well the angolan, cubans, East Germans and Soviets your dad was facing was not up to snuff in terms of training compared to the SADF, I think the G5 the SADF used in theh cold war was superior to the D-30 and mind you the G5 had nearly 25 years ahead in tech than the D-30 which at the time was still a formidable weapon in the right hands. and btw, i did not say the best I said one of the best.

@copperlemon1 yep also my view and still a good arty as of 2021 for a cheap price. good for third world armies on a budget.

@adrian.m5631 yep however a bunch of countries modified the D-30 like the Egyptians put it on a T-34 chasis to give it mobility or the PLA version which turned it into a mobile self propelled gun.

@christineshotton824 and even tanks in service post cold war are not safe, in the current Ukraine war many tank losses on both sides are due to artillery since the artillery hits them on their roofs guide by drones.
