  2. Ive heard from other Mercs that hoare was mainly a showman. he got paid mucho dinero for his stint in the Congo crisis, but many Mercs were not paid what they were promised.

  3.  @0neDoomedSpaceMarine  true, the simbas were a mishmash of forces some were well eqiupped from captured guns and even vehicles from the Congo gov army and Chinese Soviet supplied weapons, and many were just armed with spears, arrows , machetes.

  8. yah the Simba and other Congo guerilas are the proto Liberian whackjob guerillas of the 60s, yep Simbas were known to massacre rape and eat civilians and soldiers loot the area, attack naked and also highly believed in bullet warding amulets and trinkets. The Simbas were known for the savagery and fearlessness in combat , they were very effective vs. the poor quality congolese army soldiers but they sucked bad vs. UN and mercenary troops. even if many of the mercenaries were bums with rudimentary military skills, they were still led by tough veteran mercenary officers who had experience in WW2 which made them very effective vs. the Congo guerillas who charged out in the open thining bullets will not hurt them. The guerillas got massacred and learned to fear the Mercenaries so much , the mercenaries would just call a rebel held town and say they were coming and that was enough for the guerillas to retreat in chaos.

  9. actually to add to the simba heads , it was not really simba heads, more like Simba skulls , the mercenaries boiled the heads of dead simbas and put the skulls as decoration, in fact I read, some mercenaries and locals made good money selling skulls to US marines and UN troops as Congo souvenirs.

  16.  @0neDoomedSpaceMarine  not only not high paying most were not paid at all, they got gyped bad. and yes they plundered a lot, the congolese money they got was basically so worthless, it was monopoly play money, I read they sold a bunch of these worthless money to US marines guarding the stanleyville airport who bought them with USD also conned them in games of chance and fleecing them of USD to buy worthless Congolese francs. Also equipment for the mercs was also haphazard , true they were better equipped than the rebels but they made do with captured weapons, and even uniforms. since their logistics was messed up. The mercs had to guard their weapons and belongings since theft was much rampant among the mercs.

  20. yah the mercenaries in the Congo crisis were devastating vs. the local Congo guerillas. who were of very poor quality , amateurish and had superstitious fear of white men, they were called white giants by the local Congo guerillas. However they sucked bad when facing UN professional Indian Irish and Swedish troops. However the Mercenaries had a lot of balls and had a major effect on the defeat of the Congo anti gov guerillas.

  21. correction the Chadians did not use anti tanks guns on their trucks, they used a mix of Milan ATGMs , RPGs, and Recoiless rifles. hence no recoil
