  1. the muslims moros have been fighting in the philippines since hte early 1970s, its one of the worlds longest guerilla wars and not ending. In fact, southern mindanao are some of hte most dangerous places in the world where if they find out you are a non Muslim and esp. if you are white or East Asian, you can get kidnapped and if the ransom is not paid beheaded. The PH military is is so corrupt they sell guns to the Muslim guerillas who btw also make their own guns and RPGs and their funding comes from Saudi and Gulf state and Muslim country donors. When the Muslim guerillas need money they turn to piracy in the Sulu sea which seperate Phiippines from Malaysia and they even raid Sabah , Malaysia to kidnap Chinese tourists. Also the whole area is supposedly under hte control of the Philippine gov who have their own local Muslim governors who have their own private armies, and all of them are in cahoots with the various Filipino muslim guerilla groups, in fact their soldiers moonlight as fighters of these guerilla groups, and mix that with smuggling coming from Malaysia(stolen chop chop cars and others) and smuggling of drugs and guns from the Philippines to Malaysia, with the Philipine army also taking their cuts.

  2. Southern Mindanao is the poorest and most underdeveloed area in the Philippines. Yep due to war and the corruption of the local Filipino muslim gov. not helped when many of the locals are addicted to meth, which is used by Muslim guerillas to help them gain courage in attacks on Philippine army troops.
