  2. We don’t want or expect Canada to be our next state. I hope you all know that, and I hope Canadians all know that you and us are great friends and allies. This is a standard business tactic. Make wild plans and promises to gain something smaller you actually want. Look at Greenland. We aren’t taking over Greenland. We aren’t buying Greenland. We weren’t even trying to. What we wanted was for Denmark to uphold their end of the NATO contract and increased their defense spending by a small percentage, and to allow NATO (US Navy) to build more infrastructure on the naval bases in Greenland and adjust the SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement) to allow more troops there. And they’re currently in discussions to make that happen. What we want from Canada is for our trade deals to be more fair. Most of the trade agreements between the US and Canada are heavily favorable to Canada. It’s time for the deals to be favorable for both, equally.

  3.  @AndyE30 Not a joke. A business tactic. Worked on Greenland, worked on Mexico, will work in Canada too. You make wild promises and demands, and instead you get something smaller, which is what you wanted in the first place.

  4. @ There are way too many people who simply hate him and they convince themselves that he’s actually dumb enough to try to get a 51st state. They’re only invested in making sure they have negative things to say.
