Okay, I have my favorite list of Russian words. For simplicity, I will provide Russian-English pairs, where the English member of a pair is not really a “translation” but a word commonly considered as “translation”, if any. Let's start: (Счастье, happiness), (тоска, <almost impossible to explain>), (друг, friend), (начётничество, dogmatism), (добрый, adj. good (kind)), (добро, good), (совесть, conscience), (хлеб, bread). Some pairs may surprise Russian and English-speaking people, but I can explain the difference. As a matter of fact, there is always some difference, but in these pairs, it is especially apparent.
