  2. I think your opinion is very reductive Il Principe it's simply Real Politics. Nordics don't like admitting Macchiavelli predate Enlightenment by few centuries, nor like to admit the book's merit. And no, I don't think it's ironic. Fact is, he knew Republic, in his time, were an exception. He made a book for RULERS and called it the prince because if he called it Republicanism 101 many wouldn't have read or liked it. And because in the situation Italy was in, he probably though even a prince could do IN THE MEANTIME. After all, another Italian, centuries later, begrudgingly accepted Italy to be under a monarch if it could be at least united.
