  3. They do not show how the casting that is being machined is moulded. All the ones shown have 0 and 180 degree crank positions, which are a lot easier to cast

  4. Here's the problem. Publicly funded research is an important good. But in many ways, it's gone waaaaay over the line of what is appropriate, and academics have gotten very comfortable acting like they are modern day prophets in some ivory tower. So you'd have to be an idiot to not expect the rug being pulled out from under academia. Common people are sick of being talked down to by people who are being paid by money stolen from them. The theft can be tolerable if it serves the common good or at the very least isn't seriously problematic. In addition, goodhart's law has taken affect. Becoming a STEM person has been the life hack to get good money. But since it has been swarmed, the talent pool is necessarily diluted, people are there for the wrong reasons, and there's too many people who need work in science for all of the work to be important enough to spend the stolen money on

  5. Ehhh this is interesting, but I think your dichotomy is wrong. A lot of people get into trouble because they take what they can get, or believe people are better than they are (not understanding the reality of the game). Being alone is hard until you learn to love yourself, and that affects people's decisions
