Say what you will about life south of I-10 my electric bill cost about $50 a month summer and half that winter, and we have balls because we didn't freeze them off in endless blizzards and power outages like they do North of I-10 ? Endless supply of fresh seafood . Plenty of hogs ,deer , squrrel, turtle , gators, frogs, nutrea , turkey, rabbits , and if you know your plants you can eat them too (check local hunting/fishing regulations), to kill, you can starve to death here but I don't see how you trip over food here not careful you can be food here .
Don't buy a car with out ac. First question about a used car is , does the AC blow cold ? My 2000 MGM Will hurt your head it is so cold. I have 3 window units 2 in where I live and one in my runaway camper that I have for HURRICANE EVACUATION ! Hurricane dropped $2K of trees on my house 2019 Barry didn't make a lot of news for destruction but sometimes you get a little damage. Power was out 24 hours. Tree was gone in a week small tree surgery army stacked up about 10 tons of wood. I wasn't in any danger I left my home with my runaway camper and generator.
Im 52 ,2 min drive from almost anything here 7 story hospital, Walmart, all 3 pizza chains , D PH PJ's. McD Wendy's burger king subway , Chinese food, Shoneys, taco bell, plenty of seafood restaurant. House cost me$12K 2+ years ago. In my life the biggest Hurricane to actually hit here was 1992 Andrew cat 3 . We had couple of cat 2 around 7 cat 1 that I can remember. Most people don't leave for a Cat 1. Yes it's hot but it doesn't kill you if you know what to do. Stay in the AC.

Definition to homeless varies. You are referring to sleeping rough homelessness. There shelter homeless= shelter for over night aka emergency.
According to the sociologists if you're living with someone for financial reasons then you're homeless (doubling up) . That's staying with friends, family because of financial hardships. Yes that's college graduate that can't find work. You work's seasonal, can't work due to health be it physical or mental. Dam man according to sociologists I'm all kinds of fucked up ?
Episodic, situational, chronic, the chronic is a year or more. The chronic live in places that aren't considered for human habitat. This includes , sewer, abandoned structures, and sleeping rough. According to this definition I'm technically homeless, I'm living in a 8*20 building AKA insulated shed. It's not meant for habitation. But I am grid tied, have running water, a toilet and a shower ? Living on a boat , in a van , car, falls into this obtuse definition.

I have pellet rifle that can kill a hog it's deadly accurate too $200 riffle. I have a 22 lr thousands of rounds. I have bank-line thousands of hooks.
I can kill a few pigeons, or doves take them home make a stew and yummy 😋. Catfish I'm in a town with all the fish I can eat. I have a lake I can ride a bike to and drive for clams. I can get all I need in 30 min just need a canoe a bike and an anchor. I also know what food to glean cat tails, thissle, dollar weeds , turtle is easy food . Hogs are running wild. Gators are delicious I'm starving sure not going to worry about a game warden I'll ask for trial by jury they will not convict if they are hunting gator too. Down here they know we're going to survive.
I have a library on medical, what to eat how to clean , store , smoke, trap, grow, build , shoot, how to immobilize , it goes down we are Caucasian refuse and we been there.

We're in the middle of Lafayette and Houma, or 60 miles south of Baton Rouge. We can handle living with less 💰 bcuz we usually own our home. Much of what we eat comes from the land. Deer, pork, gardens, fish and more. Duck, rabbit, turtle, alligator, are also eaten but not as much bc the law on harvesting them. I've gotten my own oysters, deer, rabbit, fish, crab, alligator, clams, thissle, pecans, black berry, I'm forgetting something but like I said only ignorant people go hungry.

Walmart sells grills, $18, 1.7 liter electric kettle $12 boils water can boil eggs , dish pans $2 each. That is $35 and you have ability to cook pancakes, bacon, sausage, hamburgers, toast, put a pot on there GRITS heat beans, warm a TV dinner? Use the pans to wash your grill, AFTER IT COOLS SOME hate to melt your plastic pans. Get an ice chest out the trash use some bleach and a brush to scrub it clean good as new. Ice cost $1.50 20 lbs. Use the water from the ice to wash dishes.

I called my uncle yesterday he's at the casino. I asked how is he doing? He said he had $5 it's up to $35. I said fold it up and walk out you're up 3 hours work and last I checked they aren't hiring 80 year old luggage. He looks like an alligator suitcase he is so wrinkled up. He didn't listen came back home broke as usual.
They (mom) would pressure me into going to the casino and it's the same thing nearly every time. Get up $50 then they take it all back. So I went to the security told them I want to have myself banned from that casino. Ever since I've learned to saved up $1K a month.
Couple of weeks ago I had $5 K Saved up. Was texting mom asked her how she was doing. She was in the casino again she said not so good. I then took a picture of all the money and said , this is why I had myself banned. It's way more affordable to buy your own beer. She 24 H later asked me why I sent a picture of all that money. I said that you ridicule me for banning myself but this is what I have saved up.
See I was in a divorcerape 5 years ago. I bought moms old place. A hurricane ravaged termite chewed 💩 hole ready for demolition. It's not worth the $12 K I paid for it but it's my place as long as the city leaves me alone I'm good. I'm not ready to fix the place yet. I am debt free plan to stay that way. But they force me out I can figure something out.
The whole reason I bought from mom (too $ high) was back 5 years she had figured out she could start her life over. If she had $12 K she could move to SC and live with my sister. Get out of the free home my dad provided no strings attached.
I shouldn't have done it because it's just a bad deal , but you're licking your wounds after 17 years head fuckery, you aren't thinking clearly. But good old family are truly crabs in a barrel they see a comeup for them and you got it they angle away. I'm so done with it. I'm almost ready for the city to just 💩 on me one final time.
Sadly with family you show them you're stashing, they start to angle how to get it. She needs shoulder surgery severely ,but she gets more money than I. She always finds a way to spend every cent just like she has always done.
I know why people have developed this mindset. I worked on a construction road crew I was a trucker. I watched the workers which were in and out of prison all their lives. It's like a race to broke every Friday. Forget Dave Ramsey these mfrs are of the belief "it takes a village" hence a whole village of idiots is what you get. Because the way the village works is if you have ANYTHING you get pecked to death by ducks. No kidding they look at the "child that has his own" as someone that should share his own with the ones that raced to broke every Friday = Sunday broke. If the company didn't provide food they would starve.
Well my boy this is how my family life has been much of my life. 17 years I thought I was good 09 became debt free by 2017 my nest egg was well on the way to breaking$100K. The wife sees what savings became and, (look a race to broke) wants a new house wants to buy 2 doors down from the mayor.I said we have fixed everything you complained about over the years. Now you want to abandon it no it got us here it's going to get us there .
She would go out buy everything for all her friends. Movie tickets snacks dinner drinks. I went one time with her and the kid and Poof $50 just in the movie ! This was just for me, she had control over all the money and she did her best to piss it all away. I worked my ass off 80+ hour's a week and it seemed like I was just crawling financially ,now I know why it was her thinking broke is happiness. The time I was able to make a movie was by then I was worked out, on disability after back surgery, knee surgery , double clocking your body takes a toll .
When dad was alive he sent mom the money to NC to get the surgery. Well she never got the surgery and dad never got his $1K back. And I'm not dad I'm not giving her money to gamble she could have saved $5 K just like me if she would use self control. Lookit my credit rating 804, and I was divorceraped 5 years ago.
My ex well we had to sell the home and she rented. Guess where she is, not in the new house she wanted. She probably pissed away that hard earned money and is RENTING in the same place. Really fucking great , you threw away our life so you could go YOLO you know what YOLO stands for ? You only live outside cuz you'll be homeless if you live your life like you only live once. Live for today don't worry about tomorrow. I have been homeless not because I was irresponsible but because I've married people that just destroyed my income. Now that I no longer have anybody I don't want anybody I'm done I don't want to deal with the chicken shit that goes on with life with people that can't take their head out of their ass long enough to figure out what the hell they're doing.
Literally today is the anniversary of Dads death. One year ago I visited there and dad is gone face planted where he fell that last time , were waiting for the coroner and all that. Just a really bad scene.
See mom calls herself "there to help my dad" . Really he is the only fool that keeps falling for her 💩. She moves in and takes over and treats dad like he should move out. In a really bad way she acts, the spirit that follows her is a very bad one. I'll go visit she has tude I'm jetting out of there. I don't say a word because you have the right to do what you want in your house. So I'm not going to correct you in your home I just leave.
A little back story, I was in my 40's the first time I experienced my mom and dad at the same table eating. All my life they were divorced and she just hated him with a passion.
Today I'm going to the notary and I'm going to make a will. I'm giving my estate to my nephew. I have thought long and hard on this and it's the right thing to do. I raised my daughter she came over said she didn't like it here . I bought a 30' camper for her to be comfortable when visiting. $8.5K to 💩. She came over once.

Louis I understand that you are in the way of living a dream "NYC" and all that. 70380. My zip code. Someone like you could work 20 hours a week by yourself and you could spend your time biking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, IDK if you tried it but you seem like a candidate for metal detecting. A very nice home here<$200K we are talking about a town you can skip owning a car if you want. I know you are talking a down payment on a house up there , down here that's a house that you can have a workshop, an office, your bedroom , your kids , 2 full bath , fruit trees in the yard. Patio facing the West .
Say you gotta get in the air for a reason , MSY is 1.25 hour drive. I know because I like to be that guy in the family that gets you there. You need to fly more maybe you want to live closer to the airport. But I don't think I have been out of the area here for a year or more. Last big drive was the purchase of my prius V Shreveport Louisiana.

Burbs are collapsing. Why because they wouldn't TCB. I'm in a town that has it all I lose my car I can TCB because everything I need is walking distance. I can 🎯 a Walmart, dr. Office hospital circle k 2 decent grocery stotes, multiple Banks, post office, UPS store thrift store, 2 pawn shops, city hall, and not even log 2 miles on my car. Get this I'm leaving things out because there's a 2 nd post office by city hall, Numerous places to eat, hardware stores, movie theater. $7 tickets$5 for kids and seniors. 2 gyms, at least 5 dollar store and five pharmacy. Oh ford/ Toyota dealership, Honda mc/water sports repair and sales location. CC coffee, 2 doughnut shops, poboy shop. Auto zone, oriley napa.
Ok back to the burbs. I am now 70380 I was living 70769 not as burby as Houston or Los Angeles but to get to anything with a cash register you have to drive 2miles ,6 to a gym or Walmart. 20 miles to Sam's club . We're talking hours upon hours wasted driving. Today I got to pay 11¢a mile just for fuel I don't want to pay extra to do things so I'm 70380. Where I bought my place 4years ago $12K. The MTV cribs will not be knocking on my door but neither will the bill collector. My climate is controlled, most the year I shower outside. When it's too cold go to the gym. It's not perfect but my bills are~$300 all set bills.
I pay for water sewer garbage collection, trash service power = utilities average $100 monthly, car insurance $244 6 months ~ $41 month. I put in a tank of gas $50, home internet $50,$40 satellite tv . Don't count groceries because we all do that different. Some fish I dumpster dive. Before you go all eugggh I would stack up my take just checking a few dumpsters every day vs fishing every day. It's impressive how much I save. Not just food, anything that can leak in transit anything that can be leaked on in transit is thrown away. You get can goods that are fresher than anything on the shelf because laundry, bleach or dish soap got on them ? A clean the can b use a side scoring can opener.
~$300 on the solid bills $200 on the soft ones and I still have savings goals met often exceeded.
We're here about the people today that think they're getting away with something by living out of their cars or vans as if the man is the one to beat. I beg to differ if I was smart I'd get rid of my car that's $100 out of my ass right there every month don't even go looking at battery placement tires those little repairs that pop up like your air conditioner blower motor. The health effects of owning a car I got around on bicycle I know I'd be healthier but it's so bloody hot here right now it's 93 degrees and rising outside inside It's 75°, since my house is small one little 5000 BTU window unit usually does the trick if it doesn't I got another 8,000 B TU to back it up. Nonetheless my summertime utility uses roughly 450 kilowatt hours. When I switch the winter time that drops tremendously. Summertime we're using I don't know about a 600 W air conditioner winter time I'm using 120 W electric blanket maybe an 80 W heating pad occasionally I'll switch on a 1200 watt heater when I get up.
I don't remember the last time I had to pay postage. I auto pay or pay in person. The city control the utilities pay in person is affordable less than a mile 22¢ in gas.

7:00 You can't own land? Darling I paid$12.3k including lawyer fees. Been here a year largest utilities $110 summer~ $75 winter. Water, sewer, electric, garbage one bill. Grid tied, washing machine and dryer full size fridge, got a freezer can't remember the last time I was in it.
You gave the bear analogy with slower friends, well you know what is coming with all the asshole van dweller you know it is going to get worse (police) so buy land. If you buy distressed property you are not clear cutting anything you need to get ahead of the pack get some land .
Rehabbing a distressed property is the way to go. Being a van dweller you already have an advantage. You already are setup for a home that is not fully functional. I should fix the kitchen and bathroom but I go to the gym and SSS a year and I have not bought any toilet paper, shampoo, soap, why should I the gym provides this.
Glory of buying that distressed property is everything is already developed, don't have to build road, drive way, water electric already there, some one just doesn't live there, Sort of like getting a home from the thrift store. If you are interested in this you need only look. You only need one home. 2 if you want to live like a snow bird.
I treat my place like it's a Hobo's jungle sure I cut the grass barely. I run electric mower over it get an electric blower out push everything into a the sides and the hell with it. I got a lot of work to do on this house if I'm going to actually do the work. Far as I'm concerned if I'm liven good way it is why bother fixing. If I could stay here and stack up cash who knows maybe I'll just build a better house or have one moved on here. I already know I left the location no better place to get things done fast .
Where I live , I have all these things less than 2 miles from my house doctors office dentist office hospital Walmart anytime Fitness gym circle K Burger King donut shop two fried chicken places McDonald's waffle House 2 larger grocery stores hardware stores electrical supply stores pawn shops thrift stores smoothie King Sonic AT&t store Verizon store cricket store. And believe it or not multiple places to go fishing. All 3 pizza chains deliver here Domino's Papa John's pizza hut. I also have City Hall movie theaters, City Park,Mardi gras celebrations, every year we have shrimp and petroleum festival.70380 last year's taxes were only $53.
