I wish the BRICS luck. I would very much like to see the end of the American Order. This would include an end to freedom of navigation of the seas, of course. But I don't think the BRICS nations would like not being able to send or receive commodities (especially petroleum) via the ocean. So I don't understand why the BRICS nations would like to see the end of the American Order.

@ Depends upon what you mean by sanctions. In a multipolar world, there will be no freedom of the seas, and countries will be able to trade only within their particular chosen trading block. So in that sense, sanctions would become much worse.

@ all the shipping does not need to be sunk. Sinking just 1 random ship here and there jacks up the price so much.

@AlexKen-zv8mm oh yes. For long. This was the way of things from 1500 to 1945. The BRICS nations have never known the oceans sans American guarantees of safety. When the US Navy turns from guarantor of safety on the waves, to predator, that will change the economics for all.

@ outside of NAFTA, the USA’s exports are only 4% of GDP, and getting smaller. The USA won’t hardly notice the fall off in global trade. And now that the Russians, the Houthis, the Iranians, the Somalis are pirating commercial shipping, it will only get worse. When the USA starts doing it again, that really will be the end of freedom of the seas. Think of what will happen to China when it cannot import or export anything.

@ so much much yet to do. End the UN. Countries should be allowed to use their navies to interrupt the commercial shipping of other their adversaries. The USA keeps a lid on that still. Hopefully, not for much longer.

If the BRICS are serious about dethroning the dollar, they need to stop exporting to the USA.
