Comments by "andy99ish" (@andy99ish) on "United for Ukraine: Von der Leyen's Powerful Address in Kyiv Marks Three Years of Resilience" video.
Ms Von der Leyen was German minister of defense. In essence minister of a non existing military. Now she is speaking on behalf of a political entity called EU. Another illusion. Let's get real: In respect to Russia we Europeans just do not sit in one boat. Nor in one tradition. E.g. Bulgaria loves Russia since centuries. Poland will not provoke Russia, just because a Macron dreams of reestablishing French glory. Germany still remembers very well how attacking the Soviet Union ended. Italy shuns wars generally. Hungary depends on Russian spare parts for its nuclear power plant, which provides 40% of its electricity. Austria is militarily permanently neutral by its constitution. The Baltic states are acutely fearing Russia. Portugal has little feelings towards Russia. Any European military cooperation shall start from frankly acknowledging these differences. "Powerful addresses" will not do.

I do not think that Putin wastes his time listening to bureaucrats without armies. Who on top are disconnected from the population of Europe. The Ukraine has been fooled by the USA. It shall not let fool itself by "powerful addresses" of EU bureaucrats.

@brendacarmichael3180 Problem is that her speech ignores differences. Actually the problem starts with using the geographical term "Europe" to suggest that there is already enough cultural common ground for a political union. In reality the attempt in Lisbon to define what that common European ground is, failed.
