@justicedone3929 Well, every member of the EU is sovereign. The EU is controlled by its members. So the UK has allway been sovereign. This can also be seen on the Brexit vote. You voted for it and it was accepted without any question.

@justicedone3929 Well, any international treaty is a legally binding commitment. Every contry on earth has multiple of these, that is normal. These treaties restrict the options a country has if it wants to avoid penalties, still, most of these countries are soverain. Even more, even if you do not strike any international agreement, you are still bound by reality. The goverment can decide whatever they want, but if the decision is ill advised or unrealistic, it will be detrimental for this country. Thats life, cope with it.

@justicedone3929 Well, good faith means both sides stand by their commitments not one side pampers the other. The EU has fulfilled all its commitments and is willing to continue this way. In contrast, the UK is thretening to violate its commitments. Using this tread the UK has violated the good faight clause.

@justicedone3929 Once again good faith is not about pampering the UK, it is about keeping your commitments. - The EU has committed to granting the transition period and it has done so. - The EU has committed to negotiating a trade deal on the basis of the political declartion, and it has done so. In fact, Barnier presented his proposal in February, we had to wait for the proposal of Frost until August. It looks like the UK was running down the clock.

@justicedone3929 They had Farage far more on television than the LibDems. Even so he was the leader of a fringe party. And unlike Farage, SNP politicians are rediculed by the BBC. The BBC pushed Brexit with their actions.

@justicedone3929 Regarding the fishing rights. Fish is a red herring, it doesn't contribute much to the GDP of either side. Appart from this, the EU can demand what it wants, there is no reason to pamper the UK. Regarding the level playing field: Trade deals are about reducing red tape by defining each others standards as equivalent. The UK, however, wants to change its standards in an undefined way. But you cannot define something undefined as equivalent to the EU standards. Especially, if this declaration is legally binding. In addition, if not all standards are equivalent, like for Canada, still all deliveries need to be checked at the borders. It would not prevent the issues of Brexit. The level playing field is the only way to solve this problem, and therefore, Boris has agreed to it in the PD.

@justicedone3929 Well, very often these fishing rights are legally purchased property. Preventing these ships from fishing would be an act of nationalization, just the same as taking away other properties (like houses) from foreigners. It would be a policy contradicting the core values of the Tories. But whatever, the EU can demand whatever it likes in the negotiations, just like the UK can demand whatever it likes. Actually the demands of Frost are far worse since they would undermine the functioning of the EU as a whole. Now it is up to the negotiations to find a sensible compromise. And if the compromise is not found in 2020 negotiations will continue in 2021.

@justicedone3929 Well, the EU has treated the UK better than most other countries, it requires an unhealthy amount of entitlement to see that as being mistreatment.

@justicedone3929 Well, I think Brexit will be the big humbling of the English, the last great nation of Europe to experience this. In this process, you are following the Italians, the Spanish, the French, and the Germans. A process starting with stupid decisions based on a false sense of grandior, and it ends in self destruction. We will stand by and watch the UK. Once you are done with this phase we will be happy to welcome you to join us once more.

The Canada style deal has taken 7 years to negotiate, the UK has given this deal less than a year to negotiate and implement. In addition, Canadian banks have no access to the common market. Therefore the EU and the UK agreed to negotiate a very different deal sketched in the PD.

Well, you could define a deal with more acces to the common market as a Canada+++ deal, but with more acces comes the requirement for a deeper alignment. So you could define the proposal of Barnier as Canada+++.

@animalian01 Well, you want perpetual access for your Banks to the common market. Granting this without a level playing field would be madness, it would undermine the rule of law within the EU.

@animalian01 Well, the proposal of Frost/Johnson is an absurdity, accepting it would destroy the EU. The deal proposed by Barnier in contrast would be beneficial for both sides. It is better than the deal with other counties in the proximety of the EU like Turkey. Regarding the Banks: It is unreasonable to allow financial services within the EU that do not follow EU rules. It would undermine the rule of law. So banks will need to move or found subsidiarys within the EU to service the European market according to EU rules.

@animalian01 The EU is beneficial for all its members. It reduces red tape by removing custom borders and by replacing 27 different regulations with a single rule. This greatly simplifies industrial production ans services, but it requires all members to play by the rules. If the EU would accept full acces for the UK without these rules this would undermine the working principle of the EU. Indivitual countries would need to guard their borders against unlawful products and services. The EU would disapere and with it the benefit for all partners. For the Member countries of the EU it would be much worse than a no deal Brexit. Not a single member of the EU wants such an outcome and, therefore, nobody will accept the Johnson/Frost proposal.

@animalian01 Well, until now your products meet the standards of the EU. But you want to change these standards, this was explicitly said by your politicians. Nobody knows what these changes will be, but it can be assumed these changes shall facilitate a deal with the USA. If you do not want to lower your standards agreeing to the level playing field should be no problem.

@animalian01 By the way the EU standards are minimal standards. Any single member of the EU exceeds them, and many members have higher standards than the UK.

@animalian01 Well, you describe the situation for no deal. If you do not commit level playing field for product savety any transport of good needs to be checked at the border. If you do not commit level playing field financial services banks will need to find legal adresses within the EU. If you do not commit level playing field for environmental standarts tarrifs need to be imposed on your products. I this is true irrespectively if you really break these rules. Once again this is true fo all trade deals of the EU. Canadian goods still need to be checkt, since some of their rules contradict the rules of the EU.
