You left, solidarity is for members not for third countries. What did you expect?

@adiadindas Well, fishery agreements predate the EU by several decades. It is a way to optimize the use of resources. Before this agreement, Continental fishers were fishing the juvenile fish in the shallow waters before it could grow up and migrated to the British waters to mate. Regarding the trade deficit of the UK: Are you sure this will not further increase in the case of no deal. And sure, any trade deal contains some level playing field. The currently negotiated Japan deal for example contains stricter stade aid rules than the EU has asked for. The behaviour of the UK makes it difficult to negotiate any trade deal, the fact that the UK fullfills EU rules at the moment is irrelevant because you want to change your rules, but you are unable to specify the future regulation. Any mutual recognition has to be based on the the future situation. As long as this is unclear, there is no way any negotiation can be sucessful. The deal with Canada excludes finances and certain critical products, therefore mutual recognition is simple. But it took several years to negotiate. The UK has neither the time nor the willingness to persue a canada style deal.

@ezzmuch2391 Are there any British products apart from cheese and fish that do not require components from the rest of the world?

@adiadindas Well, John Mansell seems to have asked for solidarity, but you may not have. The EU offered you the deal as described in the PD, but you did not want it. The PD contained a full chapter regarding the level playing field and it was signed by Johnson. The counteroffer of the UK came late and was violating several red lines of the EU. Now both sides are negotiating, just as promised.

@blurryface_1589 I have no idea what you want to say, please collect your thoughts before you write. In addition, proof-reading your own text would not be detrimental.

@I'm a little tired of this Well, I have been to the UK and there are certain areas that look much more like Africa, Arabia, or India than any place in Germany. This has nothing to do with the EU and everything with your national politics. The same is true fo governmental spending. The Torys are waisting huge sums of money without benefiting the population. The EU spending rules are at least mostly beneficial. And developing poorer countries benefits all of us. Edit: Well it seems @I'm a little tired of this deleted his post.

Well, Ireland will be hit by a hard Brexit, but far less than the UK.

Only 10.3% of Irish exports go to the UK. The USA is the single largest importer of Irish goods 30%, and about the same goes to the rest of the EU. Well, and the port of Dublin was expanded for the last 4 years in order to cope with the changes.
1
Well, it is mainly the UK that does not want a Canada style deal. As such a deal would not provide any passporting rights for British banks and would take about 7 years to negotiate.

@shelleyphilcox4743 The USA and the Netherlands. So what?
1
Sure, the EU needs to stick to its red lines to be determined but conciliant in detail. Just the way it has been all the time.
1
@bumblebee5818 No, the EU has actually been very consistent over the last 4 years, unlike the UK. In contrast, the red lines of the UK seem to be a function of daily politics, not taken seriously by the UK itself.
1
@bumblebee5818 Well, that is the sense of British entitlement, if you are not pampered you feel punished. Actually, the EU is treating you like any other country, and this is much better than you deserve since you have constantly slandered the EU and its citizen.
1
@bumblebee5818 Leaving the EU is hard, especially if you do not recognize the issues in advance. Membership is better than a trade deal and a trade deal is better than WTO. Nobody needs to punish you in order to make a point. Quite the contrary, the EU needs to treat you with the utmost fairness to make this point on the international stage. So we will treat the UK similar to the way we treat Turkey.
1
@bumblebee5818 I am totally serious. Why should we treat the UK any different. This would be unfair towards Turkey.
1
@paularnold7907 Well, as far as I know, the ECJ is the arbitrator for the trade deal with Turkey. Regarding the level playing field: Normally countries agree to an equivalence of their regulations and accept the quality of each other's products. The UK however wants to change its rules in an unknown way. It is impossible to sign a legally binding agreement declaring something unknown equivalent to EU rules. Here, the level playing field is the only solution to negotiate a trade deal at all. Regarding the fishery agreement: The reason for these rules is simple. The fish caught in British waters was growing up in continental coastal waters. It could be caught there, but it would provide small profits for continental fishermen and a huge loss for British fishermen. The current arrangement is best for both sides.
1
@paularnold7907 Finally, regarding the border in the Irish sea: The WTH is demanding a hard customs border at some place. A customs border (hard border) in Ireland would violate the GFA. Therefore, the EU and the UK agreed to place this customs border (not the national border) in the Irish sea.
