  1. Every country in the EU27 trades more with the other EU27 members than with the UK [even Ireland). So compromising the common market (omitting the backstop and a hard border) would be more damaging for the EU than a hard Brexit. EU politicians, the 27 governments and the industry agree, giving in to Boris would be more expensive than a no deal.
