He is also a professor with The George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences and the director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and maintains membership with the American Heart Association." He is not on the same level as Dr. FAuci: an American physician-scientist and immunologist serving as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President.

He became head of the LCI's Clinical Physiology Section in 1974, and in 1980 was appointed chief of the NIAID's Laboratory of Immunoregulation. He became director of the NIAID in 1984, a position he still holds. Fauci has been offered the position of director of the NIH several times, but has declined each time.
