Comments by "Meh Pluribus Unum" (@pluribus_unum) on "Is a shortage of oil refineries pushing up global fuel prices? | Inside Story" video.
In the U.S., the big fossil fuel companies bought up small refiners and closed the plants to specifically drive up the price of oil and monopolize the refining industry to steal money from consumers. If you truly believe in free-market capitalism, you loathe monopolies and support strong unions and increased regulation because you see the imbalance weak unions and lax oversight has wrought.

@eurobrowarriormonk7182 - When the United States of America was founded, corporations were limited lifespan entities created to fulfill contracts as needed and dissolved upon contract fulfillment or after a limited number of months or years. The monopoly that was the British East India company was equally as odious to the founders as was the monopoly on politics that was the union of Church and State. To suggest that corporate monopolies don't matter to liberty loving people is to ignore that foundational part of U.S. history.

Most electric cars on the planet are still being charged with electricity created by the burning of natural gas or coal. Better than just burning more petroleum products in our cars, but so far electric cars are not a fossil fuel free alternative by any means. We need to replace those electricity generation sources as fast as we can, which requires strong government intervention because the profit motive is hostile to the transition.
