  1. Konstantin points out something the rather obtuse Mr Hitchens fails to understand when he says "Ukraine is more corrupt than Russia" (which indicates his ignorance). Where did that corruption come from ? It did not origiante in Kyiv, it came from Moscow via the Soviets and before that Russian boyars etc....Great conversation John! I would disagree with him on Solzhelnitsyn though, yes he was anti-Soviet, but he was no Sakharov, after the USSR collapsed he just became a Russian Imperialist, his attitude to Ukraine was the typical mentality - that is, Ukraine was always part of Russia and should always be part of Russia. Interestingly my wife’s family shares similar stories to Konstantin - "Kulaks" who lost land to the Bolsheviks and got deported and a great Uncle who was taken to Germany to work on a farm during WW2..
