He gives a good summary of the standard Kremlin narrative verbatim......he offers nothing new to the conversation, if you want to hear Kremlin talking points why not hear them from the horses mouth and tune into Russia 1 . How do I know ? I live in Ukraine, have lost 2 homes and Mr Hitchens has not.

Konstantin points out something the rather obtuse Mr Hitchens fails to understand when he says "Ukraine is more corrupt than Russia" (which indicates his ignorance). Where did that corruption come from ? It did not origiante in Kyiv, it came from Moscow via the Soviets and before that Russian boyars etc....Great conversation John! I would disagree with him on Solzhelnitsyn though, yes he was anti-Soviet, but he was no Sakharov, after the USSR collapsed he just became a Russian Imperialist, his attitude to Ukraine was the typical mentality - that is, Ukraine was always part of Russia and should always be part of Russia. Interestingly my wife’s family shares similar stories to Konstantin - "Kulaks" who lost land to the Bolsheviks and got deported and a great Uncle who was taken to Germany to work on a farm during WW2..

I speak as a former "Australian" who has lived in Ukraine since 2014 in Donbas amongst the "Russian minoroty" that twice Peter mentioned "had problems" but never specified these mythical "problems". We speak Russian there all the time, even in the magazins where you are supposed to use Ukrainian in commerce. There is no problem with Russian speakers or the Russian langauge. Is it not proper that Ukraine should mandate its use in Government for example ? It's the native langauge of Ukraine which was suppressed by Russia for hundreds of years. Ukraine had a constitution in 1710, I have witnessed the original in Kyiv last October in Sofia cathedral where it was on display.. Ukraine has been trying to be a country for 300 years but the Russians won't allow it. Typical flawed analysys of Ukraine. Although his analysys of Russia was fairly good post USSR. When it comes to Ukraine he's just another hack peddling Kremlin talking points. I know this because I live iin Ukraine and he does not. I am now an ITD in Lutsk having had to evacuate the home I only bought last year to replace the one my wife lost in the DNR in 2014. Poor Russia "victim of NATO". How about poor Ukraine, victim of Russia ?

Great conversation, many relevancies re: Cold War II even now, in hindsight, a couple of years later. Action in the South China Sea is ratcheting up, He was spot on regarding Germany's lack of power and Merkel's blundering vision, which in hindsight, appeasing Russia, gave the green light to that decrepit little cretin in the Kremlin to destroy us here in Ukraine. @seanmoran2743 can you even read ? I did mention his name, and yes that Ukraine flag means i live in Ukraine & lost 2 homes - how many have you lost ? The MSM is not always "lies" as you seem to think. The mainstream narrative is far more on point than the alt-media narrative which push Kremlin talking points almost 100%. It's always contrarians like you who think they know better. Well you yourself have an inherent bias by thinking the MSM always lies,, You really need to stay out of topics you know nothing about from direct experience.

If you knew Ukrainian history, which you do not, you would know this is not a proxy war - but a historical wrong perpetrated for over 300 years, get a clue & check my profile out and go away and learn before you comment about things you know nothing about. "Banderite" is the phrase vile anti-Ukrainains like galloway or blumenthal use, peddling a Kremlin lie that is getting us all killed here and our homes lost. Ukraine has the lowest support for far right in Europe, <2%.....contrast with LePen in France with over 24% support

Great conversation. I was listening to radio national recently and they had Mick Ryan - Retired Major General ADF, author of “War Transformed: The Future of Twenty-First-Century Great Power Competition and Conflict”. He had a pretty good take on the situation in Ukraine here. Any chance of getting him on as a guest John ?, he only spoke for a short time on RN, would love to hear a more extended conversation with him.

Niall is spot on, if Ukraine & Georgia was allowed to join NATO and not opposed vehemently by the appeasers Merkel and Sarcozy, we would not ba having this conversation about war and I would have not lost my home in Donbas and be and ITD. I'm an Australian citizen but I would rather stay in Ukraine for various reasons. I believe in this country's future as does my wife. DFAT did offer my wife refugee status to come to Australia under the Morrison government, which was great on their part John, that being your ex-party. The department did a good job as far as welfare checks and whatnot!
