Drinking Water Treatment has a pretty ridiculous licensing system, at least in my state. There are 4 license levels, D, C, B, and the top, A. I've been a B for a year, and turns out I took and passed the A level test too early for it to count. Requires minimum 5.5 YEARS actual work experience to get the A license, but with it one is certified to operate any water plant in the United States, regardless of size, capacity, or complexity, from top to bottom. So I can understand having rigorous requirements, you screw up in this job and it's not a messed up drain line or gas connection, you can potentially kill untold people.
Every decision I make in my day to day work I have to be mindful of my duty, and legal liability, to over 7000 customers who are going to drink my water, whose CHILDREN are going to drink it. This either really stresses you out or seriously focuses someone. I always think about Flint. If I did something, or stood by and let something happen, that killed a dozen people and ruined the lives of thousands of children, forever, I couldn't live with that. I don't see how anyone involved there can. I'd probably drown myself and make sure my coworkers called it an accident so my family got the AD&D insurance.

Friend of mine in high school was an amazing student, finished high school math in middle school, 35 ACTs, full scholarship to Harvard. His freshman year, he dual-majored in pre-medicine and pre-law to decide on one. He abandoned the law because, in his own words, "Medicine is WAY easier, it's all fact. The Law is all OPINION, and it can change at any time. It's way too hard."
This gave me a grudging respect for lawyers and attorneys.
He ended up graduating Harvard Med, then got his MD from Stanford. He did his residency and tried private practice for a year or so, then went into Hospital Administration. Said as a Doctor, you can only help one patient at a time, but in admin you can potentially help countless patients.
