I've witnessed a total solar eclipse in the path of totality at the point of maximum duration, and I have to say that even having vast knowledge and understanding and modern university education, it was still an intense, inspiring, truly magical experience. I can absolutely see how those without such foreknowledge or information about what is happening would be terrified and exploitable during such an event. Hate to say, but covid seems like a modern version of a solar eclipse to historical 'savages': a major event where no one seems to know what's happening, being used to control and exploit said ignorant masses.
