People have LONG confused demonetized with non-monetized. Demonitized means you just don't get a cut of the ads tha will run on your video regardless. If there were NO ads, it's would be NON-monetized. I'm not in the partner program, I have monetization turned OFF, I do not and never have had a AdSense account. My channel videos have had ads for YEARS already. This is nothing new. Even demonitized videos run ads, youtube keeps and always has kept all the money. It's been that way at least 6-8 years for me, catch up.

LOL, imaging this: if you had to pay for your video hosting here. I'd love to see that. Video goes viral, you're now bankrupt. Millions of views, thousands of hours of HD serving, millions owed. That was the original revenue a channel owner got from original youtube, you got hosted for free. If 'creators' had to pay for their hosting today, the top 100 channels would be gone in months.

Demonitized never meant NON-monetized. It just meant the 'creator' had done some violation, and the response is they lose their SHARE of the ads they'd have on their video regardless. Only solution is to demonitize everything. Go back to original youtube, where 'creators' were paid by not getting an enormous video hosting bill every month for their stuff to be up.

I've had my channel since 2007, and I have no clue how to even look at that metric. I didn't even know watch hours was a thing. Edit: ok, they didn't even have watch time until 2012, so minus those first FIVE YEARS I currently have 8,600 watch hours on my channel, but only 294 subs. All I'd really care about it getting to 1000 subs for the sole reason I could then livestream from a mobile device.

Sometimes, I think I'd like to see 'creators' get charged what it costs Youtube to host their video. I think that would be hilarious to some of these pompous channels. "Oh look my 10 min video went viral and got 50 million views!...what's this? A bill for 8 million hours of HD video bandwidth hosting?! $250,000 bandwidth bill?!?!? For one video...I make these everyday! Quick, stop subscribing, stop watching, don't share!"

Good. De-mon the entire platform. It was never meant to be about the money or a way to make money. Youtube already paid everyone, by hosting your video for free. Any big channel today would be paying far more for bandwidth than they'd ever make off the most aggressive video ads. You have a 10 minute video get a few million views, that's hundreds of thousands of hours of bandwidth, you're talking 6-figure costs PER VIDEO very quickly at commercial rates.

Imagine if youtube charged you for your cost of hosting your video. "Ok, monthly statement, ad revenue, $1000, nice....wait, 50,000 hours of HD video bandwidth, $10,000! That viral video ruined us! I just think we need to go back to old-school youtube, where no one got paid, or expected to, so no one did BS videos by the billions of for money, chasing the algo. Commercializing youtube was the death of it, about 10 years ago.

There is such an alternative. It's called "stop doing this for money". Problem solved. Go back to old youtube, where people would make a dozen videos a day, zero censorship, no ads, no revenue or BS and none expected. The 'payment' was YOU getting a 'TUBE' where you could upload and host your video FOR FREE. That was revolutionary. I joined youtube in 2007, check my channel date. Trying to monetize ANYTHING online kills it, without fail. Value for value is the only way to go, look into it.

Next TOS change: we've eliminated all ads, BUT 'creators' will be charged for their hosting bandwidth. I would like to see some channels get a nice high-six-figure hosting bill each month lol. People are astonishing spoiled by 'free' hosting. The bigger and more popular you are, the more you COST. Going viral could bankrupt you.

They are paying creators, by not sending out bandwidth bills every month. You have a 10 minute video get 1 million views, that's 170,000 HOURS of hd video service bandwidth, some channels would get monthly bills for hundred of thousands to millions of dollars just to have their video available. You kids have been so spoiled by this. Back in ancient times of 2007 when i joined youtube, it was seen as a hell of a deal because no one except corporations could afford to upload and host/serve videos, but youtube offered it for free.

No video has ever been NON-monetized. Ads have always ran regardless. Demonitized just means you f-ed up and forfeited your share of the ads that go on your video regardless. Just take solace in the fact that the bandwidth costs more than any content creator is getting paid. You have a viral video, say it gets 50 million views and is 10 min, that's over 8 million hours of HD video hosting, that would cost you mid-six-figures in the commercial hosting market. Youtube PAYS you that for free by allowing your tiktok crosspost to play. I have zero empathy for people stealing my time with ads for their profit, including 'creators'.

Not going to lie, if you are relying on youtube to save a life in a medical emergency, darwin is starting to apply. It's 50/50 at absolute best you get info that helps, more likely that hurts. Rather, lets all take some days off from youtube and take an actual accredited course in real life in first aid/cpr/crisis response/lifesaving. Your local hospitals and such do this. It should be mandatory for all people.
