I still think it's annoying that I can say "Back in The Day of the late 90s, you could actually fly from the US to Europe on a jet faster than sound in less than 3 hours". It's 2020, The Concorde should be obsolete tech, but no, it's yet to be equaled or surpassed decades later. Fuck, it takes more than three hours to fly just about anywhere in the US these days, and forget about transatlantic. What's happened to the future?

Per Harvard/Johns Hopkins, when analyzing the test results and patient outcomes: Those 30-50 who test POSITIVE for the virus show a symptomatic rate of 0.5%. Of that 0.5%, 40% need hospitalization, but that big scary number actually means of that positive group, only 0.002% are hospitalized. Meaning, for those 30-50, even testing positive, there is a 99.998% chance you won't require hospitalization at all. I think an ambulance ride to the hospital has a larger risk than that. And that's just hospitalizations, it's an even smaller fraction of that 0.002% that die.

The way we beat the virus is to get the economy going again! With this many people not working, with businesses suffering losses like this, state and local governments are TAX REVENUE FUCKED. Because their revenues are thusly fucked, their ability to fund things like healthcare, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, all that will be severely diminished. Along with strain on funding for things like fixing roads, keeping the drinking water flowing, treating sewage, all that stuff no one thinks about.

Are you going to raid the store later? That one annoys me. When you say raid on a store, I picture a small 4 man fireteam with rifles seizing the store and stripping it. That's a raid.

@kaisersosay4238 Actually, you can bet if that many controllers are 'endangered' by illness, it'll be similar to the automakers, the union will demand a full stoppage for ALL air travel to free up all controllers. No flights at all anywhere would continue, and they'd point to their contract to force it, or possibly just walk out.

The time has come for the US: high speed passenger rail here is a BS idea. No one takes trains. But high speed cargo rail, that's a winner in a nation this size. It doesn't even have to be that 'high speed' and you can move a product from NYC to LA in less than 24 hours, something large or numerous, by train.

It's going to be far more impactful than we can imagine. My father is 79 and my mother is 74. One could say they've 'seen some shit' in their time. I described how the store shelves look locally to my father, and asked my mother after she'd gone shopping and seen for herself, "Have you ever seen anything like this? Shortages in the United States?". Both are in complete disbelief. My father was 5 years old when WW2 ended and he says they never wanted for anything he can remember, even then, and definitely not in the 75 years since. THAT ALONE is going to mindfuck anyone with a brain. I thought I was psychologically prepared for it, but to go see empty stores for yourself and see your fellow citizens looking shellshocked and zombified going through the store...it just dawned on me that THIS, right now, is Ge Z's 9/11, just like 9/11 was my generation's Pearl Harbor. Their lives especially are now going to be split into before, and after.

Problem is a recession will amplify mortality. The stat from macroecon is that for every percentage unemployment increases, 37,000 Americans die from the effects of that...with the current predictions, that's 750k dead people, just from joblessness, just in this country.
