Being that they are wildly more educated and astonishingly more experienced in the matter than you or I, maybe WE are saying it wrong. Hard to argue against authority.

Nuclear is really the only feasible future though. Wind and solar are 1800s technologies and will never be able to meet our current energy needs, much less our needs increasing by the day. Geothermal and Hydro power are great but are not widespread enough and cause their own ecological problems. Oil and natural gas are finite and won't last more than a few more generations. If we had went with new-generation fast breeder reactors when the US perfected them in the 80s, we'd be 100% emissions free and nearly free of high-level nuclear waste today. Fast breeder reactors produce far less waste of much lower radioactivity, and they can be fueled from EXISTING high-level nuclear waste from old-tech nuclear plants. With a power system like that in place, power could be so abundant that gasoline and even solar/wind would be so expensive no one would want or need to use them. We could have all cars be electric cars. We could have zero emissions. We could finally have electricity cheap enough to make global-industrial-scale seawater desalination feasible and widespread, eradicating water scarcity in the entire US. We could even start pumping freshwater back into depleted aquifers such as the Ogallala and depleted Rivers like the Colorado River.

@kansascityshuffle8526 Wind and solar are 1800's technology. We need to move past Civil War era solutions....

7 years later...nope. It's barely a youtube recommendation.
