From what I've seen, a lot of this was discussed over the Indianapolis shooting where the officer thought she grabbed her taser but was her handgun, and it was a surprise when she fired a fatal round...that dept mandates the officer carry their taser on the non-dominant side. If you're right handed the Taser is on the left, so you absolutely know which one you're grabbing. Makes sense.

  6. Reminds me of my friends story when he was training to be a paramedic. He was in the last leg of training, riding an ambulance full time, and answered a call for pregnancy complications. On the way to the hospital the patient mother died, they tried resuscitation the whole way, and en route the fetus, stillborn, spontaneously delivered right in the ambulance, and he had to hold this dead baby all the way to the ER...he filled out his paperwork, called his currently also pregnant wife at home to cry, and quit on the spot. Nope, not for him.
