  1. The craziest part to me about this debacle on this specific charge is that the rifle was purchased from a big box retailer. None of them are selling anyone a short barreled rifle or illegal weapon of any kind. At worst they could have traced the serial, gone to the retailer, pulled the form 4473 they definitely have, and seen it was of a legal length. Maybe even have the store clerk who completed the transfer to testify. That it took this long, weeks of trial, to get to the point of them just coming clean about it not being illegally possessed is insane.

This is THE problem with policing today: The best people, the people you WANT to be police officers, look at circuses like this and say 'FFFFFFFFFF THAT, I can make way more money elsewhere and not worry about one mistake getting me executed in the court of public opinion". The worst part is the people right now who WANT to be police are TOO STUPID to see that. Of course you're getting more and more terrible, idiot cops. The people smart enough to do the job aren't stupid enough to do it! It's like all the police resigning right now for mandates and moral reasons, that means they're leaving behind more and more who want to be authoritarians and have no morals. When the good people leave, and the bad don't, you concentrate the poison rather than diluting it.
