  1. In the real world, when I use penetrating oil, I spray it HARD right now, the day before, then when I go to work on whatever it is the next day, I spray it again before I start trying to remove. If it's a small enough whatever, keeping a 5 gallon bucket of used motor oil is great for dropping seized or corroded things into to pre-soak.

  2. Another place that's true: bearings. Especially bearings that need to be pressed into place. Putting them in the freezer the night or day before you work with them can mean the difference between it slipping right into the bore, or needing to be forced with everything you got.
